Really need a hug

InBedBy10 · 10/09/2026 12:03

Ive been single the last 4 years after a long term relationship. Ive mostly loved the peace that comes with being on your own. Especially since the last few years of my relationship were so very toxic.

Ive been going through a really hard time this last week. For the first time I miss having a partner. Someone to give me a big hug and tell me everything's going to be alright ☹️

Dont know what the point of this thread is. Im just in a really bad place right now

Please accept my virtual hug. I’m sorry you’re having a tough time. Want to tell us about it?

Cuppachuchu · 10/09/2026 12:08

Have a hug from me.🤗
It's lousy when you are blue. We're here if you want to offload a little.

LittleJustice · 10/09/2026 12:10

Sending you a big hug I'm kind of in a similar position because I'm having a really tough time and my partner's an hour away and it's just not commutable in the week so I'm desperately in need of a hug too.

A hug from me too.
This too will pass

Jiggerypokesy · 10/09/2026 12:12

Sorry to hear you’re having such a rough time. Sending a virtual hug.

Do you want to talk about what’s been happening?

If not I hope you get some RL support as well soon xx

Mindblowing · 10/09/2026 12:12

Have a hug from me too.

Might be a daft suggestion but try patting yourself on the shoulder or arm and saying the words, out loud, that you would say to your best friend or sister or daughter.

You are doing great op. Tell us more if you want to.

Mindblowing · 10/09/2026 12:15

Kamil Ravikant
Eckhart Tolle

Their books and the latters YouTube talks bring me peace. It is well worth checking them out.

Sending virtual hugs.
I understand I'm long-term single and you bump along nicely till something happens. To talk to someone else you have to fully explain everything which is draining and all you need is a hug.
My dc is going through cancer treatment at the moment and there are lots of unknowns and I haven't got the energy to explain to people whats happened and what going to happen just to get a hug.
Its having that someone that just knows and is there physically at that moment. Its having someone to feel you can speak freely to without being judged. Its that not being responsible for all decisions. Basically sharing the load. Ive been single over a decade and most of the time I prefer it but the hard times you just need that person. Have you reached out for support from any one in real life? I'm not judging either way because I struggle to do this but this week I have told someone I'm not coping and for a short time it did feel easier.

DozyCrow · 10/09/2026 12:33

Another hug from me OP. I'm sorry you're going through a hard time right now and hope you're able to navigate a way through it. There's lots of us here who will listen if you want to offload further.

Another singleton sending you a hug.

I absolutely adore living alone and having the time to myself but when things do go wrong or you're having a bad day it can be tough. I cuddle my dog or find myself a cat to stroke just to have that physical contact.

Hoping things start to improve for you soon, OP.

Thank you everyone 💓 your messages have helped me feel a little better. I live in a rough area and my house was attacked by a gang in a case of mistaken identity. Ive been a nervous wreck ever since and honestly cant sleep at night because every little noise has me on edge.

This isn't the first time this has happened but for some reason I just haven't been able to bounce back like I did the last 2 times. Im trying to get a transfer but the council really dont care. Ive spoken to police and solicitors but it seems nothing can be done. I feel trapped as ive 4 kids and nowhere else to go. If I give up the house I wont be eligible for rent supplement for 2 years and I cant afford to private rent. I just cant keep living like this. I dont feel safe in my own home and no one cares. Ive fallen into a dark hole and i cant get myself out of it ☹️

Crikey OP that sounds awful. No wonder you feel on edge. Please just keep pushing the council and police... sending a big hug, hot tea and a listening ear. Could you speak to citizens advice?

SomethingNewish · 10/09/2026 15:08

That sounds really tough OP
Not feeling safe in your own home really takes away any means of mental escape from problems.
Have you had any help from Victim Support?
I hope you get your transfer soon.
Sending you good wishes.

Whosthetabbynow · 10/09/2026 15:14

Sorry to hear that OP. It’s awful to feel your personal space has been violated like that. It’ll be ok in the end x

whippersnapper55 · 10/09/2026 18:59

Sending you a massive hug 🫂

If I were you, I'd get in touch with your MP - this is exactly the sort of situation they can help with. They're surprisingly effective at dealing with public bodies like the local council and moving things along!

Samaritans may help

Samaritans will listen to the OP’s feelings but can’t provide any advice, unfortunately.
