Is it normal to be nervous before a proposal?

Is it normal to be nervous before a proposal? Because I am. Me and my partner have been together over 2 years In our 30s if that helps. And my daft dad has let slip that he’s asked him for his permission and is doing it soon. I feel nervous but happy . Is that normal. I’m also anxious about it because I now know it’s coming soon just don’t know when if that makes sense.

Yes normal to be nervous, it's exciting and a big moment that will be sprung on you when you aren't expecting it. Now if you feel nervous once he's proposed thats probably a different sign!

You're in your 30s and he asked for your dad's permission to propose to you?

Well yes . It’s our first marriage each and it’s tradition to ask the fathers blessing.

Yes normal! It’s a big life moment. But the fact you’re asking this question makes me think you’re worried you aren’t sure?

My husband did too (we were in our late 20s) because whilst my dad wasnt going to say no, I knew that my dad would like it if he were asked. It is still seen as a traditional thing that most people do where I grew up.

As it happend we got engaged on holiday, THEN my husband phoned my dad a few days after we got home. I had already told my mum and she "set up" the phone call on their side, so then there was a few days where my dad thought he knew this big secret yet in reality my brother had also worked it out too then my dad told my mum the 'secret' where she had to pretend to be surprised so it was a bit like that Friends episode where no one knew that they knew. Or a Jane Austen novel.

Oh I am totally sure. I think it’s just the next step if that makes sense. Plus I’m still in disbelief that I actually found someone who wants to marry me . Kissed a lot of frogs before i met him and still doesn’t seem true

Well that’s great! It’s absolutely normal to feel nervous especially when you don’t know when he’s going to do it. Make sure your nails are always done 🤣

You're right to feel nervous, you are about to sign a contract that could have important financial ramifications in later life.

Well. If someone I was seeing did something so reactionary and patriarchal I’d certainly be nervous as well as angry, because I’d be questioning my own judgement in men, and planning to refuse.

It’s normal to feel nervous and I think it’s lovely that your partner spoke to your dad. As well as being traditional it shows respect too. My son is in his 30s and spoke to his now FIL before proposing which I know he appreciated.

It’s figurative. You can get off your soap box.

Good for you . And thanks for the comment . I love the fact he’s included my dad In his planning. Traditional values mean a lot to me
