Interested to know thoughts on affection when in company of one other?

just trying to gauge what the general social ‘norm’ is around this.
if there’s a couple and one friend in eachothers company, say out for dinner, visiting the couple at home etc, do you think that the usual way they would behave together if alone is reasonable? I’m talking walking holding hands (with friend beside them), little
kisses, pet names, arm round at dinner etc. I don’t mean in a crowd but with just 1 person.

just interested to know thoughts

Hand in hand walking is fine, arm around at dinner fine, pet names borderline, little kisses too far

I am a single person. I find anything that feels excluding rather rude to be honest. So kiss as one partner says goodbye to other going out - fine. Snuggling up and repeated kissing whilst meeting a single other, - rude and excluding.

Holding hands walking and arm around casually at dinner (not the whole time) is ok. As is a hand on the knee / leg casually at dinner too. Pet names and kissing probably not so much - just a bit unnecessary I’d say. I wouldn’t expect a couple to not display any kind of affection just because they’re with one other person, but no need to be overboard with it.

I think it’s a bit over the top and I wouldn’t really like it unless it was just occasionally. But in my experience, the people who feel the need to be so over the top in public tend to have the most insecure relationships. I don’t need Dh all over me while I’m trying to have a coffee with friends because I know our relationship is solid.
