Husband and night gaming

Would it annoy you if your husband stayed up really late gaming and then slept in until 8/9am whilst you got up with the child from 6am every day? And then if he fell asleep during the day on the sofa after gaming really late? Whilst you were left looking after the child.

Yes.

I don't care what DH does for hobbies, but he has to be a present father. Have you said he needs to do half the early mornings? Or does he do parenting pieces you don't?

DoAWheelie · 27/08/2026 14:27

Yes. I'm a big gamer and think it's a worthwhile hobby but it's not on to push all childcare onto the other partner due to messing up your own sleeping patterns.

He needs to get up and parent his child, and stick to only gaming during actual free time once all family life responsibilities are done.

Dartmoorcheffy · 27/08/2026 14:27

Does he not have a job either? Sounds a great catch..

littlelongstockings · 27/08/2026 14:27

@MrsTerryPratchettNo he doesn’t do specific parenting pieces unless I ask him to, he will play with her etc but no care unless I ask. He works full time and I am a SAHM so I suppose we have just fallen in to these roles.

Yes, it would. Your husband isn't a single man, without responsibilities, he's a partner and a Dad. Staying up to ridiculous times to game, and then leaving you to parent your shared child is pretty shit behaviour. On top of that due to the late nights, he's napping during the daytime too.

Does your husband work? Is this on a Friday/Saturday night only? Not that it makes a difference!

Ponderingwindow · 27/08/2026 14:28

Yes. My husband late night games occasionally, but he still gets up and meets his responsibilities . He just deals with the consequences of his choices.

he also manages not to make noise and disturb anyone

littlelongstockings · 27/08/2026 14:28

@DartmoorcheffyYes he does, he runs a successful business but work hours are on his terms.

I really don’t mind him gaming as that is his hobby, it is the falling asleep during the day that is annoying me and today I snapped a little bit at him about it.

This. He either does or doesn't. Yours doesn't.

I think it would annoy me more to have to get the kids up at 6am. Sack that.
Im team lazy nap in the afternoon. School starts at 9, why do they need to be up at six? Roll outa bed the back of eight, shove them all in the car with some dry toast and a packed lunch you made the night before. Work smart not hard.

littlelongstockings · 27/08/2026 16:17

@SodthesystemMy child doesn’t go to school, they are home educated currently but they wake up early so we start the day at around 6!

Edited

kids don’t just stay in bed until 8:30 because you want them to, you know! Some are young, some are early risers…

I game as does my husband, but we still get up and parent our children aibet they are much older than yours but still no excuse.

whippersnapper55 · 27/08/2026 17:59

On the odd occasion, probably not. If it happened frequently, I definitely would mind!
