Ducks in a row?

Am splitting from DH. Have told him and it varies day by day as to whether this sinks in. He can be angry and dismissive. Has suggested I move out - financially impossible until house sold. I would like to coexist until then.

I would also prefer to reach agreement on custody (50-50) and maintenance without lawyers but will if I need to.

We both earn but he earns more. What do I do? What do I need to prepare?? What are my ducks?!

First steps are to see a divorce lawyer for advice on steps. Take copies of financial information, joint accounts, pension etc so you can get the most out of it.

Then separate as much as you can. Not sure how 50/50 the kids are now but decide to keep as much as you can separate of it starts to go south. Keep an eye on any joint accounts.

Also, do not share this info with him. Don't tell him you have legal advice until it's necessary. Everyone starts out wanting it to be civil but often these things go south so hope for the best but prepare for the worst!

If I had 50p for every divorcing wife I knew who said "We're having a civilised divorce" and then ended up fighting over the teaspoons, I'd be rich.

Sorry OP.

When people say get all the financial information you can, what exactly do you mean? Joint accounts I get, but are you suggesting his accounts? Pensions….how does one find this information, it all sounds so hard to find.
