gosh thats so tough, sending you a hug.

My dad took his off when he received divorce papers about 7 months after separation. My mum took hers off maybe a year and a half later.

Whats make you keep them on?

When my sister was married to her first husband who cheated she removed them the moment she found out! I never understand people still wearing them really if you’ve left, you’ve left - they’re meant to be symbolic aren’t they?

beingtakenforafool · 09/08/2026 01:34

i took mine off the day he left

When i knew there was no way back in the marriage. It is up to you when you stop wearing them.

The day I left.

When it caused an itchy rash on my finger about 2 months before I left him.

I put it back on once I'd left and sold it a year later.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/08/2026 04:25

I left them on longer than I wanted because of work gossip.

If you feel weird, take them off and see how that feels.

I'm sorry to hear that you've separated. Even if it's been initiated by you, it's still a hard journey to walk.

It's your decision when you take them off. I took mine off about a month before we separated, as I knew the end was coming. I had COVID as the excuse to leave them off - all that hand washing.

2 colleagues from different parts of my job noticed their absence in week 1, so be prepared for questions.

All the best.

I wore my wedding ring on my right hand for a long time after my separation and divorce. Infact I still have the ring although I never look at it.
I will say though I never succeeded in freeing myself emotionally from my first H and hanging on to the ring was symptomatic of this. It's only in very recent years the scales have fallen from my eyes and I see him and his behaviour for what it was and how stupid I was to care so much about him.

Conveniently shortly after separating I fell down the stairs and bashed my left hand. Fingers started to swell and so I took my rings off. Never put them back on again. It is an extreme route to go down and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it…..

Sorry to hear you have separated. There is no right time necessarily but if they are starting to feel wrong on then that would signal taking them off I would have thought.
