So…. I’ve started seeing someone ‘ seeing as in met up 3 times - but speak everyday on the phone.

he lives 1hr 40 mins from me.. & been to see me 3 times.
ive yet to go and see him , but im going to this weekend.

in his village there is a summer show type thing going on and he has invited me to it in the evening. But obviously because it’s an hour and an 40 mins away I would have to stay over.

I’m 33, but I know if I tell my family they will get a bit funny about this. What are your views on this. I think my mum just worries for safety reasons thanks.

Why is it obvious that you would stay over?

Would you be staying at his?

Is there an alternative place to stay?

Please do tell someone you trust where you are going.

What do you feel comfortable with?

travailtotravel · 05/08/2026 09:55

Why would you tell your mum?!

travailtotravel · 05/08/2026 09:56

I mean someone needs to know where you are but it doesn't have to be your mum or family.

NewAgain26 · 05/08/2026 10:00

Ignore what your family might think (its really nothing to do with them (especially at this stage)
Some people would feel comfortable to sleep over with a new partner after 3 dates - others would not. There is no right answer here. Do what you feel is right.
You could stay in a local B&B, you could travel home - or you could stay in a spare room. There's absolutely no reason why you would have to stay over.

Tell a friend where you're going but no need to tell anyone else if thats what you decide to do.

Sunshineismyhappy · 05/08/2026 10:03

@Nosdacariad

as in its an evening thing… so would be later at night.

yeah, he seems lovely !

I just wanted people’s opinions that’s all.

You dont have to tell your mum what you're doing though, just tell her you're out with friends in future.

If you don't feel comfortable staying over yet either decline or drive/train/bus back after the event

Whatbloodysummer · 05/08/2026 10:45

No-one can really give much advice to you about this, because we don't know you, or him, and how you both feel about each other?

I will say however, that an hour and 40 min drive does not mean that you need to stay overnight?

As PP's have said, you can book to sleep elsewhere if you want to, and just enjoy the evening without the pressure of 'Where am I sleeping?,' Does he expect sex?' or even 'Could he be an axe murderer?'...

Unless you are 100% certain you're going to have sex with him, I'd avoid staying at his house (I mean, what if he suddenly starts behaving oddly or offends you with a comment? Would you still feel 'obliged' to stay the night?)

As for the safety aspect of going? It's imperative that you give someone the details of exactly where you'll be and who with, just in case?

Likeiloveyou · 05/08/2026 11:00

Why can’t you take your dog?

Yellowshirt · 05/08/2026 11:03

Unless one of you is willing to move then long wise you are wasting your time with such distance between you.
I would move on now and find someone closer to home.

What do you want to do?

While you should tell someone where you are going - you choose who you tell. Is it that you live with your Mum?

You don't have to stay at his house - you could book a hotel.

Sunshineismyhappy · 05/08/2026 12:13

@SaraHoliday

umm, I’d like to go and see him for the evening yes, and stay over.

I live round the corner from her. But she would have to look after my so I would of course tell her. I think they just worry being female ect…

Put your dog in overnight doggy accommodation.

Book a hotel room for yourself near your new beau.

Tell a friend where you’re going.

If any of these steps is impossible for you - you’re probably not in a good position to be in a relationship right now.

Do just that then and tell someone where you are x

Have a great time. 😁

MyballsareSandy2015 · 05/08/2026 12:33

Make something up for your mum if you think she’s going to give you grief … but do tell a friend where you’re going.

Your mum doesn’t need detail at your age.

OriginalSkang · 05/08/2026 12:41

Your mum aside - If you're going to stay at his, he will most likely be thinking you're going to shag him. If you're not up for that at this point, don't stay at his

Op so,
Mum am going to see a friend and stay over, see you tomorrow around lunch time, thanks for looking after the dog,

NorWouldTilly · 05/08/2026 13:18

But she still needs someone to have the information on where she actually is. Just for safety.
