Could the man at my gym be interested in me?

I’v just seperated from my partner of 15 years so I’m a bit out of the game. Iv recently joined the gym and for the past 3 weeks there is this guy who gives me eye contact for more than 3 secs and smiles as we walk past each other . I smile back then look away. Could he be interested in me or am I being a silly school girl and getting an ego boost lol? He usually keeps himself to himself in the gym and focuses on his workouts.

If you’re literally just out of a longterm relationship, then it doesn’t matter whether this gym guy fancies you or just thinks your leggings are a horrible colour — you wont be acting on it. Just enjoy it.

@SingForYourDinner Agreed.

Sounds like he might and it’s always nice to be appreciated.

However you need single you to be fully up and running before dating again.

A wild fling might be just what you need to help you move on as long as you don’t get all entangled again. It’s early days. See what happens!

Chances are he’s doing the same to a number of other women….

Oh no, a man looking for a fling/relationship with women he finds attractive! How revolting!

I'd say he's just being friendly , have you even spoken yet. Quick to assume he fancies you by his behaviour.

BillieWiper · 31/07/2026 10:50

Surely if you pass someone in the gym it's only polite to acknowledge them with a warm smile? I'm presuming you do fancy him. But he may well just be being polite.

ZebraZebraPig · 31/07/2026 12:39

In my experience guys let you know if they are interested in you (not by smiling or eye contact) but actually approaching you

PetulaGordeno · 31/07/2026 12:41

Gym men are usually grim men. I have known a few people to meet a man at the gym. Never known anyone to be treated well.
As you are so newly single after such a long time a bit of flirting is harmless.
But then proceed with caution unless you want a quick fling.

Thatsthebottomline · 01/08/2026 10:57

Has anyone thought that the reason he is at the gym is to get a work out ? Do you think hes there purely to look at women for who might be ok 'for a quick fling" ?

orangehandles · 01/08/2026 11:32

He might be, but tread carefully. He probably has a wife and kids at home.
