Ending a draining friendship with my ex after hurtful comments

Very brief background stayed friends with my ex still go out of occasionally he can be quite insensitive and I find it draining when we do meet up. Finally, I have seen this poor quality friendship for what it is and I don’t wanna do it anymore.
We went shopping at weekend and he made a joke as usual at my expense and basically called me a fat s##g. On the same day we looked in a shop and I was looking at underwear and I joked that I wouldn’t get one bum cheek and a pair of knickers that he held up and he said “oh yeah, ewwww”.

He’s actually not the slimmest of people. He’s lost probably 1 1/2 stone in the last year and he’s using that as a leverage to criticise my weight knowing I am very conscious of how much weight I have gained due to medication.

Thank you to Mumsnet that have given me advice in the past I truly appreciate it. I feel a bit lighter to finally say I am finally done.

He called you a fat slag? What a prince, glad he’s your ex!

@malloryknox123 yep apparently it was a “joke”

Having read and commented on previous threads I read your post and put my head in my hands.
You have said thank you for some great advice (and I don’t mean mine, and plenty of posters offered support!) but at what point are actually going to act on it.
He keeps dragging you back in, it’s been ongoing and the advice has been the same since you first posted - leave him to it and get on with your own life.
If you are actually finally done - good, you’ve wasted long enough on this idiot.
But if he slips back into a MH crisis or you feel a bit lonely - and I get it - if you go back it will just be more of the same.
This man has had you on a string, but calling you a fat slag, honestly, if you keep returning your self esteem is going to end up on the floor.
You deserve better so treat yourself better.

Have some bloody dignity and walk away. Why on earth do you keep doing this to yourself? He’s a cunt who likes humiliating you.

49andabit · 29/07/2026 19:50

@BauhausOfEliott he actually seems to pride himself on being a c##t and openly admits he is and finds it funny. He behaves like a teenager at times. I find his behaviour repulsive and that last comment literally was the straw that broke the camels back. Appreciate you taking the time to read.

Why did you stay friends with such a pig. Block him and move on.

whippersnapper55 · 29/07/2026 21:58

Stop being friends with him. He's not your friend. He's an arsehole.

AImportantMermaid · 29/07/2026 22:02

He’s not a friend. Friends don’t make their friends feel bad.

OMGDidYouSayThat · 29/07/2026 23:13

Just fuck him off, when someone starts slinging personal comments around like that they don’t deserve your airtime. Everyone is different, thin, fat, pretty, not so pretty but they all have one thing in common, they are all human, they all have feelings and they all deserve some respect.

My pet hate is the new breed of gym wanker that seems to think that because they like to spend every spare hour in the meat factory getting sweaty and drinking twat protein that everyone thats not a size 6 with their pelvic bone on show is somehow inferior, i personally believe that curves are important and way more attractive.
