I left my husband two years ago and ive not been coping since. It was my decision even though we were both unhappy and made no attempt to makes things better. Even though i dont want to get back together I miss having a family, my teenage DCs dont really need me anymore (17 and 18) I have met somebody and we have such a good time together but it will never be the same as having a family and I feel I will never get that back.

I think this naturally happens to everyone; things change. Make the most of here and now. Do the things you couldn't do when you were tied down with the children.

You're still part of a family.

At their ages, you are coming to the "empty nest" stage and would be whether you'd stayed married or not.

There's good family times to come as they get older, like graduations, new jobs and houses, maybe they'll meet partners, and eventually have children themselves.

They might be pulling away from you now as they gain their independence, but it's just another stage and they will likely come closer again in time.

Try to appreciate what you do have and rediscover yourself, your identity as "Blossom", not as "Blossom mum of xxxx and wife of xxxx".

I think it's not having that family unit OP, is that what you mean? If you were with their dad you'd still feel like a unit even if the kids weren't always there any more. If that's what you mean then I get it but you're right you can't get it back and I understand how that feels sad.

Do you miss the unhappiness and hoping things will get better ? Its so easy to focus on the nicer points without remembering that you were not happy. All families are different, and yours is also different too.

Change happens is every, single family. At least your happy now.
