WWYD - still can’t forget something that happened 2 years ago with best friend

Some advice, please. Two years ago, my best friend qualified for a national dance championship. As I had been there cheering her all the way for several years before this when she learnt to dance I naturally presumed that I would be going for the grand finale. Every time I asked her is there a plan she said oh I haven’t thought of anything yet I’ve been really busy suddenly the day came round And I was never invited and in fact, I was asked to look after her dog and hamster that weekend! It turned out plans had been made and another friend had been invited as the support team. Moving forward this week she has qualified again And I naturally would like to go and support her. She has indicated that we would all go so that includes the other friend and myself however I cannot forget what happened two years ago and I feel really sick when I think back on it. Everyone else has moved on, but I actually well up and cannot forget it. I know this week the subject is going to come up. What would you do in my position?

I think your reaction is really extreme. Your friend perhaps did a shitty thing not inviting you but to well up and feel sick about this two years later really isn’t healthy.

I would wait and see if you are invited. If so I would go for it. If not I would bin them off as a friend. I think they only want you when you can help them..

You have a choice. Rather than forgetting (which we cannot choose to do) choose to forgive and let go of the hurt and anger you have. You do not know the whys and wherefores of what happened 2 years ago

I'd have stepped back from someone who expected me to run round after her, then was deliberately vague about the final plans, then expected you to be her unpaid sitter.

BakedBeansforabrain · 26/07/2026 21:08

What’s happened in the 2 years since? Have you still been supporting her?

ALovelyPinkUnicorn · 26/07/2026 21:12

I think it’s best if you detach, you feeling this much emotion to
the point of vomiting that she has another friend sadly isn’t healthy

It's about time you moved on. Just quietly drop your so called friend and get on with the rest of your life. No hate, no drama, just get on with your own life.

She clearly does not value the support you have shown her.

Please don’t expect anything from her.

She has ofc behaved rudely and without consideration - asking you to pet sit on her big weekend, knowing full well you’d given her support in the past.

It’s a snub. Please take it as a snub. And drop her. No drama. Just don’t be available at all anymore. You’re busy. Really busy with prioritising yourself and your own achievements. Please do this because she will snub you again unless you don’t allow it by simply stepping out of her life.
