Week without kids - grumpy husband

I’m generally quite content. Decent house, good kids, work part time. My kids are off away on holiday camp next week and I’m not looking forward to it just being me and OH. He hates his job so is usually just miserable. I generally try and ignore it and the kids are a good distraction from it. But with me and him just home alone I am worried it’s just going to be a miserable week. He’s a good dad to the kids and is always fun on holidays just doesn’t enjoy working but is hoping to retire soon so won’t change his job. Am I being unreasonable? What should I do?

He just needs to cop on. Sounds like staying is an active choice so he needs to own it and stop being such a twat.

Why are such men described as a good dad?. Do you think he is a good partner, no he is a miserable one. Again women in poor relationships often write the good dad comment when they can think of nothing else positive to write about their man.

What do you think your kids are learning about relationships from you two?. You’re showing them that this treatment of you and in turn them is acceptable to you. Did your parents act like this when you were growing up?.

Trying to ignore it and using the kids as distractions is not working . You need to do something else because he’s also doing this because he can.

You are only responsible for your own happiness. Reframe the week into a week for you to enjoy the summer

Can you agree to arrange to do some fun things that week for the two of you and just for you? It will give you something positive to focus on.

If he can't get into the swing of it, tell him that you know he is miserable in his current job, but it is making you unhappy, that he is so unhappy. Ask that he leaves work at the door and makes family life as enjoyable as possible.
