Often said in a bitter , resentful and cursing tone.

And guess what? I did, and she’s fucking awesome. Hard work(especially in toddler years), but awesome in so many ways. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows and there were/are issues, there have been worries and tears (mine and hers) , but I do enjoy her company, spending time with her , doing things together. I don’t resent her or make her fit a very prescriptive view of what a child/girl should be which probably made things 100 times easier.

I had a child just like me, and it’s not that bad. Maybe I wasn’t either?

Wow… what a dark childhood you had.

You don’t have anything more to do with whoever said this to you do you?

Hamela · 22/07/2026 10:15

Of course you werent/aren't that bad. Toxic parents say this to try and deflect blame from themselves, because they are shit parents and don't love us how we deserve to be loved. And they never will. They are not capable of it.

I would seriously put distance between you and them, if you can. Focus on being a better parent for your own kids , without your parents ill wishes and bitter toxicity. You're an adult now, and they don't know the real you, and you don't owe them a thing ❤️

Little you was always just as amazing as your DD is, by the way.
Sick that your parents couldn't see that. Dont waste another minute on them.

Yes! I had this.

I did have a child just like me and rather than make them feel bad, lazy and weird I sought help and now everyone is diagnosed ASD/ADHD.

Nothing wrong with any of the children/parents, we just have more knowledge now.

Yes , DD is on the waiting list for an ASD (or/and possibly ADD ) assessment.

There’s a lot worse. There’s some good things too.
I do, for various reasons, but moving countries has helped a lot.

Sounds like you're experiencing the exact same situation as me.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 24 and have realised I'm almost definitely autistic too.

DD is just like me, but is on the diagnosis pathway at 6. She has not been given messages that she is too much or not enough and if she is, I will fight them with all of my being.

She is absolutely, perfectly, herself and instead of telling her her dreams are too wild or not how things are done, and trying to tame her to be "normal" I am helping her carve her own paths, since the ones already laid out weren't made for us.

That’s exactly it. She’s allowed to be exactly who she is rather than constantly fighting to fit a square peg in a round hole . But no, I’m just lucky to have a “nice, easy” child.
