Partner wants

My current partner and I have been dating for about 7 months and recently he keeps talking about moving in together and when we live together. I think he would want to move in sooner than later
Before me, he had a partner of 5 years, and was engaged etc and when they split he moved back in with his parents. He is 28 currently and I live alone in a 1 bed flat.
he has mentioned living together pretty regularly and even before our 6 months anniversary said his boss had a bungalow near his work that was up for rent we could move into and has talked about opening a joint monzo account

i have some defaults on my account and am currently in the process of clearing some debt, which will be all paid off by end of the year.

however I am concious I don’t want my mistakes and my debt to affect his future and so am hesitant to agree to moving in - should I open up the discussion now of my debt, so he has the chance to end the relationship early if he wants to and it won’t be as bad.

I do want to move in together but at the moment I want to get my financial situation sorted first before I do anything

He wants to move in so quickly so he can have a nice soft landing from living with Mum and Dad

Do you actually want to move in with him? Doesn't sound like you do. You should do exactly what YOU want. He sounds like a wannabe cocklodger to me

Oh and as for the joint account- you hardly know him! Absolutely not.

whippersnapper55 · 18/07/2026 20:44

Absolutely don't do this. Don't be rushed. I'd give it at least 2 years and see how you feel then.

donotgettheangst · 18/07/2026 22:49

You shouldn't be worried about protecting him, please protect yourself! It's too soon, and too much of a red flag. Do not move in, merge finances (and definitely do not have babies) with someone you've been dating for seven months, and who currently lives with his parents. Just don't.

On another thread instead today someone said:

There's no man so in love as.one who needs a home.

It sounds to me like he's pressuring you to move quicker than you otherwise would have. Just be careful to protect your assets and yes, sort out your finances first or it'll affect his credit rating.

istherereallytimeforallthat · 18/07/2026 23:26

No, don't do that. He's only suggesting at all because he wants to move out of his parents' place, and he's now found a gullible girlfriend who can pay for half of it.

Just don't. Get your finances in order, wait until the new year and then decide what YOU want to do - and don't be swayed by what he wants you to do. By the way, a joint account with someone you've only known a few months is a seriously bad idea. You do not know about his past - only what he's chosen to tell you.

abso.fucking.lutely.not.

he's rushing this because he wants out of his parents house

you're looking at this situation upside down, you're worrying about him being affected by your debt, yet here he is suggesting a joint account and you've only been together 7 months!

Stay with your plan to clear your debt, keep your head above water and if you feel like you want to live together after that - so at the end of year, then reconsider it then. If he disappears in the meantime, then you'll know he was only after two things: a roof over his head & a joint account!
