Male victim of domestic abuse seeking advice on leaving safely

In relation to my other post about escaping domestic abuse with myself being a man - I didn’t mean any offence saying women’s charities are available 24/7 whereas men’s are not, I just find it upsetting, I am a victim of physical and mental abuse, just because I’m a man it doesn’t mean I’m lying :( I have been isolated from friends and family she controls everything I do in life. I just want to get out and be safe, we do have children but she is a brilliant mother I won’t denay her from that I just don’t understand why she treats me so bad I was just looking for advice on how to get away safely- I’m not looking for council housing just want to live my life again and not in fear everyday :(

So what are you asking with this thread?

WisdomBiscuit · 18/07/2026 16:23

Have you not contacted any charities or helplines yet? You can even email.

Are you saying that you won’t take the children with you?

Backtobroc · 18/07/2026 16:23

She’s a “brilliant mother”

But also she spends all our money on drink, ?

SallyD00lally · 18/07/2026 16:24

You didn't bother returning to your other thread so why do you expect people to advise you on this one??

Minasama · 18/07/2026 16:27

Do you feel the children are safe with her?

Do you have the money to leave?
If so I would rent a room somewhere, gather my passport/documents and leave.

If you want to take the children that seems more complicated, in principle the same thing but flat rather than room. There are probably others that can advise better than me.

Physically and mentally abusive people are not brilliant parents.

You need to be getting your kids away as well. You may be too deep in to see that shes abusing them as well. Even them witnessing you being abused is abuse in itself.

You need to start making a record and collecting evidence, is there someone irl you can trust to hold onto information for you.

ManKind are a good place to start, and can offer support and advice while you go through the process of leaving.

If you are in Yorkshire contact IDAS, it’s for all genders of domestic abuse. If you are not, you will have to do a little research in afraid.

Some of these organisations have helplines, but they also have directories of services and advice pages you could check out. I appreciate it’s frustrating to be limited on when you can speak to someone - you might have to use the same techniques women do, like saying you have a doctor’s appointment so you can get out of the house to make the call.
