Friend in new relationship, being distant

A close friend of mine (we're both 37) recently got into a relationship after a really long time. We were both long term single and we bonded over this and would share stories of our terrible dating lives and laugh together and voice note every week or other week. We have even been on holiday together. We have supported each other when we've felt down about our situations being single and late thirties, single with no children and have vented to one another multiple times of how frustrating it has been.

She is in a new relationship of about 7 months, and I feel sad. I am happy for her, but I'm sad what has happened to our friendship. If I ask her to catch up, she is always up for it and we meet up, but in between that, a big part of our friendship was calling one another and sharing voice notes and messages about our lives, now I barely even get a text. I do most of the texting first, asking her various questions about her new life and I am always engaged and happy to hear about it.

But I haven't had a call or voice note from her in months. She used to send me really long ones which I enjoyed and would send her the same back. Now when I voice note her, she will just send short texts in response. I knew she was spending a lot of time with her new boyfriend so have just mostly left her to it, but after a few weeks of not hearing anything from her, I was happy to receive a short text from her last week asking how things were. I responded telling her about a difficult situation i'd been in recently and returned the question and she didn't even reply.

I know it's what happens in life but I'm just so sad as I thought she would understand being as she was single so long.

I don't even know what to do, do I continue being my usual self with her, leave her to it and we lose our friendship. Or do I say I feel neglected? But then no doubt look like Im jealous or something when all I really want is our friendship back.

I miss my friend but she's changed since finding a boyfriend and I didn't think she would. I'm now way down her priority list clearly. Nothing has changed for me

What do you mean you are “neglected”? You still engage spend time together… do you mean you’re upset you’re not her no1?

We're hardly speaking anymore, so I do feel a little neglected. When I've been in relationships, I still make time for my friends.

I understand, it’s a difficult shift OP. I also stay in touch with friends in a relationship. In my case I haven’t seen my friend since April and she’s also loved up!

I think you need to accept the shift and be happy for her but don’t be afraid to tell her you miss her and would like to catch up.
