Guy I'm exclusively dating on hinge

Negroniqueen0 · 15/07/2026 12:31

My friend has messaged me to say the guy I've been dating is on hinge and screenshot shows "active now" status. We have been dating since end of April and agreed around 6 weeks ago to be exclusive. Both agreed not to date other people but both not quite at the point of full blown relationship. He did say he doesn't know how to delete hinge so I'm more concerned by it showing as active now..

Things been going well and seen him 2-3 times a week. In contact daily and text every night so don't think he's actually been going on dates. I obviouslylike this guy and told each other we love each other last weekend (feel stupid to admit now). Would you raise with him? I just feel a bit stupid and that I'm getting carried away thinking it's more than it is.

I don't really want to cause drama but feeling like I don't trust him now.

Ask him.

buymeflowers · 15/07/2026 12:33

Block and delete.

Pausing your profile on Hinge is incredibly easy. He’s lying.

Fiendishandfiery · 15/07/2026 12:37

Blimey how old are you both you’re declaring love after several weeks and yet he has an active dating profile and you don’t trust him.

if you want him to delete it tell him. Surely that’s easier than telling a virtual stranger you love them,

pinkyredrose · 15/07/2026 12:40

He doesn't know how to delete Hinge?😂

Tell him to Google it!

Perimenopop · 15/07/2026 12:44

It really is easy to pause Hinge, I do it whenever the app (or the guys I match with on it) gets on my nerves (which is quite often but that’s another story) . If you’ve got to the point of exchanging I love yous then surely you can raise this with him.

These days people seem to want to keep their options open, which I understand in the very early talking or dating stages. But once an agreement is made to be exclusive, that needs to be honoured by both parties. Good luck

FckThisShit · 15/07/2026 12:44

He's playing you.

Ncforthis2267 · 15/07/2026 12:46

It's literally 2 clicks to pause your hinge profile. I'd dump him immediately for being either thick as pig shit, or assuming you are!

ForTipsyFinch · 15/07/2026 12:52

Doesn’t know how to delete hinge 😂 surely you don’t believe that?

I wouldn’t be staying in a relationship with someone who is seeking out more options- not for me at all.

ClickClickety · 15/07/2026 12:55

Did you meet on Hinge? He could have been showing photos to a friend.

Rondayvu · 15/07/2026 12:55

Perhaps he was only on there to delete it? Tell her to check again today and if its same well you will have to mention it to him.

Thr33lions · 15/07/2026 13:25

I dumped someone for the same offence after a lovely couple of months practically joint at the hip, zero percent chance was I going to continue seeing him once it became obvious he was just biding his time with me until someone “better” came along. Whether he’s gone on dates or not yet is irrelevant, he’s keeping his eye open so he’s got the option to pursue if someone he likes the look of appears.

It takes a grand total of two clicks to find the “pause/delete” options on hinge and it takes about 10 seconds to google “how to delete hinge” if he’s not sure. I fail to believe that someone capable of signing up to the app, creating a profile, uploading pictures and prompts, swiping profiles and responding to messages on there is so inept that he couldn’t have done either of those things.

Of course you should raise it. In my case I rang him immediately and that was that.

SallyD00lally · 15/07/2026 13:27

Would you raise with him?

Is this a serious question?

I mean even for MN it's a strange one.

GottaBeStrong · 15/07/2026 13:58

I couldn't be bothered with this. I'd just end it with him.

outerspacepotato · 15/07/2026 14:01

Either he's stupid or he thinks you are.

Whatbloodysummer · 15/07/2026 14:08

OP, kindly, if it's still showing active, it's because he's still bloody active?

It isn't rocket science to pause/hold/delete any dating site, and if he thinks you're going to believe the 'I don't know how to do that' speil, he's obviously not too far off the mark with that, because here you are asking MN if you should believe it??

He's obviously NOT that keen on being 'exclusive', he just wants YOU to stop seeing other dates, but he's still free to keep looking for an upgrade.

That’s not correct, hinge takes two years to turn inactive, he has to pause it or delete it.

JFDIYOLO · 15/07/2026 14:13

Pop off Mumsnet and go and talk to him.
Calm, civilised conversation.

Consider your situation - is he moving in to your place? Has he got a job? Is this all moving very quickly?

Misses the generality of the sentence entirely 🙄and just needs to be right 😂

OldrNWisr · 15/07/2026 14:17

He’s keeping his options open. Dump him, you can do better.

bladada · 15/07/2026 14:20

If it was not official nor exclusive, it was not dating anyway, it was a situationship, and still is by the looks of it

Iaeve · 15/07/2026 14:46

Ask him - your friend saw his profile active on Hinge and is he still on it? Set your boundaries and tell him either he deletes it or it’s over as you are worth far more than having a friend see him on a dating app whilst you are supposedly exclusive.
I’d probably instantly end it however.

I think you are confusing two different things. The green “active now/active today” that appears next to people’s names when viewing profiles is to show they have been online on the app within the past 24 hours - I believe this to be what OP is referring to in her post.

Bufftailed · 15/07/2026 15:27

Come on. He’s lying.
