Has anyone found happiness after leaving a long-term relationship with children?

Can anyone help me with success/happy endings after leaving a very long term (15 year) relationship with one child and having no home?

i have just decided to leave.
the house has kept me, because I don’t own it and renting is much, it’s his but despite always paying towards it he’s never put me on the deeds etc (no mortgage)
We have a son.
We’re not married.
hes physically hit me twice.
I’m saving to leave and terrified of ruining my daughter’s life by doing so as she loves her “family” unit. So a plea for people who’ve been in the same or similar situation and left and things have been ok?

I’ve not been through it myself but he has hit you, of course you need to leave. You should actually report him to the police for assault, if you feel comfortable doing so. It may be tricky when you first leave, but it always works out in the end. Do you have family to help you?

Your son categorically does not love the family unit @whatthehellisgoingonhere

how old is he?

Most people I know who left marriages with kids were happier afterwards because most people I know left because it was intolerable

You are most certainly in that camp, and life will be better without him. He is no example to either of your children - they might not realise that now, but they will.

I'm glad you've decided to leave. If there's physical violence, however sporadic, you should always leave. Your children will be ok. How old is your daughter? If she's old enough I would be honest and tell her that you left because of his unacceptable behaviour, including physical violence. You are teaching her that she should never accept this behaviour from a partner, which is a good thing.

Sorry??

Yes. Ex beat the shit out of me (in front of 10 year old DS) and we split.

I have been so much happier since, it’s like night and day. I’m in my own little house, DC are young adults now and thriving. Life is great.

Please stay safe 💐

Sorry??

I think OP means who are you requesting the age of? Child or partner?

Then she’s agreeing with you about the fucked up family unit…

Your question is kind of beside the point as there is no question that you need to leave and ensure your daughter never, ever witnesses this. That responsibility is yours too.

I left and I am so much happier, I have a wonderful relationship now, but this is also from reading and therapy to understand myself, what I accepted in the past and how to move forward. It takes two to make a relationship and healing to ensure cycles do not repeat.

Yes I am the happiest I’ve been in years.
Left husband as basically a functional alcoholic.
Have a daughter with him.
I am on the title deeds but basically getting nothing from the house sale.
Dont care as I am out of it as life’s too short.
I am loving being on my own with no resentment.
Get out if you’re unhappy.
We split up the beginning of the year. Finally over the hump. My daughter is doing well at school and she is happy with the situation now.
Good luck. Ending it is the hard part and once it’s done you will feel a weight off your shoulders.

And look into universal credit if your son is under 18.
It was the financial part I was worried about but we are managing absolutely fine.

Ah I see

I am not at all interested in how old the likely cheat is!

Far far far happier out of the marriage. Two children; we split when one was 11 and the other 6.

Dear God, I look back and wonder how I endured it.

I was going to say that if you've honestly done your best in the relationship but you're really unhappy long term then split.

But then I remembered he hit you twice. Go, now. There's no coming back from that.
