Are they having an affair or just flirting at work?

Last week I walked into the coffee room at work and found two colleagues together. The woman, who was wearing a short dress, joked that because it was so hot she was trying to cool off “up there”. Shocked by this comment, I since then realised I have noticed the two of them spending a lot of time together over the past two weeks. He works in a different division but seems to be over in ours a lot now, where she works, often just whispering to her. They now have lunch together and often leave together as well. At a recent garden party the two of them sat on their own away from everyone. Some other colleagues have been speculating but I didn’t think anything until this comment.

They are both married with children.

So, totally being nosey, is this likely an affair? Or is it more likely that they are enjoying the attention?

Curiosity killed the cat. I would stay well out of it.

Sherararara · 28/06/2026 08:42

Who knows. Who cares. Mind your own business.

Blondiebeachbabe · 28/06/2026 08:42

I don't think many women would talk about their fanny being hot, unless the guy has already been there, iyswim.

Chiapotayto · 28/06/2026 08:44

How on earth would anyone one of us know.

This is the kind of thing I would think ‘Slightly weird’ about and not give a second thought too. Workplace affairs are pretty common. I mean, are you planning to get HR to make them wear a scarlet letter A?

I guess I am immature tbh. I never heard a comment like that before which has got my mind going.

I will obviously stay well out of anything.

Whatever it is, it’s in appropriate. There’s no need to speak so crass. I think she was inviting him there. Which being married with kids is unacceptable.

This is quite outing but I am the woman in this story. We are not having an affair or flirting but I like to let everyone know the temperature of my bits. Hope this clears up the matter.

Moderate at the moment for those wondering.

Spaghettimonsta · 28/06/2026 09:00

Gross comment

lightreflectingonwater · 28/06/2026 09:00

How unprofessional of both of them. Grim

Thanks for sharing.😀

I, obviously, and purely coincidentally, am the man in this scenario, and I would like to clarify that I was conducting a survey on behalf of HR about the genital temperature of all colleagues, to see if the air con is adequate.

Whether they are or not is no one’s business but theirs and obviously their partners when they inevitably find out, but truth be told, men and women can be close at work and downright flirty without them actually having an affair

Viviennemary · 28/06/2026 10:33

I am the boss in this daft tale. You are all sacked. Or at least on a disciplinary for wasting work's time.

I know one of the women at my work has form to date younger men at least 15-20 years younger than her. The one that ended in an affair was at a time she was newly married (no kids) and the young guy was unattached as far as I know. It became an affair and it started similarly to this one, spending time together in breaks and at work events, smoking outside together. There was a colleague’s lunch event and they showed up together. The woman is now divorced and the guy moved on to another workplace. It wasn’t right for a number of reasons I can’t get into here it wasn’t just two colleagues getting together. It blew up in their faces.

OP you missed the other option in the voting.

"Trunky want a bun?"

😜

TinyTempest · 28/06/2026 20:13

They’re probably winding you up and watching you go.

You haven’t disappointed them obviously.

blythet · 28/06/2026 20:14

What a disgusting comment for her to make whether they’re shagging or not 🤢

Lararoft · 28/06/2026 20:18

Mind your own business really.

My ex used to say this a lot, I haven’t heard this phrase since 2006!

Timeforaglassofwine · 28/06/2026 21:12

Laughing at people telling you to mind your own business. Who, hand on heart, doesn't love a bit of work gossip? If it's malicious or bullying then absolutely not, I know because I've been at the receiving end, but if it's blatant flirting, then they are courting gossip.

Apologies for awakening memories of an ex, but not for the expression 👍
