My friend has so many failed relationships!

I’m looking for some advice about a friend I care about very much.

I’ve known her for around 20 years. She has two children and currently lives with her parents after her relationship with her youngest child’s father broke down. Over the past year, she’s had several relationships that have moved very quickly. Since last September, she’s been on holidays with two different partners, introduced her children to them after only a few weeks of dating, and then the relationships have ended shortly after. She often seems to get swept up in new relationships, with gifts, expensive treats and holidays involved, but the pattern keeps repeating. The latest breakup has left her feeling very depressed, and I’m worried about her. I genuinely want to help, but I don’t know how to say, kindly and supportively, that she may need to take some time for herself and break this cycle rather than jumping straight into another relationship. Summer last year she met someone who was already in a relationship and within 2 weeks of meeting was telling him she has feeling for him. Has anyone been in a similar situation, either personally or with a friend? How would you approach this conversation without sounding critical or judgmental?

She’s with someone new now. She seems happy and he seems really nice. They went camping last weekend and are away this weekend. I just hope this really is the one .

best of luck to her

I have a "daughter" (in that she is like a daughter to me, and calls me mum, but not related in any way), who is like your friend op.

Luckily she doesn't have children yet, and is only 25, but she has so many partners, and is devastated when these relationships end. She has a difficult relationship with her birth parents, and was living independently at 16. I think she just craves love. She is possibly neurodivergent too, so also craves the dopamine hit that new relationships bring.

I just keep my mouth shut and am there for her when she needs me. I don't want to lose her, or for her to feel that someone else has let her down and pushed her away.

I don't think you can say anything really op.

Maybe let’s not blame women? Do you know how difficult it is to meet good men out there, men who actually want a relationship? The men are more likely chasing the highs of a relationship than these women

Is your friend attractive? That’ll explain why she may attract a lot but these men usually shallow and seeking high

She is lovely looking. But I just wish she would protect herself and stop going from relationship to relationship. Though this latest one she has known him for a few years prior and they had a romance before she had kids. So I’m hoping second time round it works x
