I'm talking to a French guy online, but he never sends the first message. He's impressed by my personality, but how can I tell if he's serious, or what should I do?

You’re not dating. Don’t drag this out - a few messages then meet in real life. If he never messages first - he’s just not that into you (and did he really say he was ‘impressed’ by your personality? That’s weird).

If he never sends the first message, then he’s not particularly interested. When men are interested, they usually make it pretty clear. Also, you need to meet any potential boyfriend and not spend too long messaging beforehand.

I’d ask him if he wants to get a drink and ask him, if so what days work for him. Then wait and see if he messages back and suggests a specific day. I don’t believe in all this “if they don’t message first they’re not interested”. Yes, it is the case a lot of the time but not always. I’m incredibly lazy with dating apps, even if I’m chatting to someone I really like, I’ll go for days without replying. I just have to be in the right headspace to message on them and have so much other stuff going on in my life. You’ve got nothing to lose if he doesn’t respond, he’s a complete stranger after all. If he’s vague about meeting up or dodges the question I’d bin him
