Just looking for a bit of perspective. I’ve been single for a good few years now and have kids who don’t see their dad at all, so life is very full-on and I don’t get much time to myself.

Lately I’ve realised I really miss having adult conversation and a bit of male company, but I honestly don’t know if I’ve got the time or headspace for proper dating and fwb etc aren’t my kind of thing. Part of me wonders about going on the apps just to chat and explain that i’m just looking for someone to talk to on a friendship level for now.

Is that completely unrealistic? I use to have male friends I spoke to online only but lost contact with them when I had children. Is this a thing I could do or just wasting my time? I often feel lonely in the evenings so it would be good to have someone to talk to.

What about something like Bumble for friends?

ItsAWonder · 04/03/2026 20:30

Is that for male friendships? I’ve heard of it but hadnt thought of using that

Yes for any friendships
I mean I find it questionable that some of the men on there are in relationships looking for new friendships with women but hey ho
also fb dating has a friendship element but annoying you can’t turn off the dating element at the same time

In my experience loads of blokes use dating apps just to find people to chat to, so I think you would find that without looking too hard.....

They aren't necessarily up front about it, and imply they want to meet. But after a bit you realise that some of them just want a pen pal. So if that's what you want too I reckon that is perfect!

That would work for me 🤣

Are you in FB? There’s a dating section which has a friends category.
Or try Bumble - that’s got the BFF feature
