Friends forgetting my birthday

Today is my birthday. I have lots of birthday witches of family, friends and my partner who have wishes happy birthday. It is frustrating as some friends I see more than other people haven’t even bothered to wish a happy birthday. The one has been ill so I understand. It just gets me down as I always make the effort for them getting a card and saying happy birthday.

I had a friend years ago who I felt out with as she kept being disrespectful but she always made such a great effort for my birthday and I miss having a friend making a birthday special.

I have to admit I'm a bit rubbish about birthdays and cards. I have some lovely friends who I keep in touch with and we meet up fairly regularly. If it were not for social media though I wouldn't know when their birthdays are unless they had something planned that they specifically tell me about. Equally, I never expect anything in return from friends and wider family. Birthdays lose value for me, as you get older - it's just another day really! If my DH or DCs forgot though, there'd be trouble!

Life is busy, sometimes we forget things like birthdays! Don't take it to heart, you've had lots of birthday wishes to be grateful for. Happy birthday! 🥳

As an adult, with other things going on in my life, I try to remember friends birthdays but really I don't give a fuck. I do it for them, mostly I manage to remember, but if I don't I'm not going to beat myself up about it.

It’s not personal, many people just aren’t really that bothered about birthdays do the fact others might want it to be acknowledged just doesn’t cross their minds.

Chinsupmeloves · 07/12/2025 18:47

Oh it doesn't bother me at all, mostly because I'm equally as rubbish! 😢

TootsMaHoots · 07/12/2025 18:52

It’s mine tomorrow and it’s absolutely always forgotten. I think it’s a worse time than really close to Christmas. People are in that ‘what! It’s almost Christmas!! I need to Get Things Done’ mode.

I only get one or two closest friends a birthday card. It's just daft to send birthday cards to everyone you know every birthday, you'd be spending a fortune, stamps are ridiculous prices now. They're slowly dying a death really. My young adult sons aren't bothered about receiving any birthday cards, they don't put any value on them really, they don't "get" it.

Yeah, all people I know born in December experience the same problem!

Yeah, I only send cards to 4 close friends but even 2 of those can’t be bothered!

Thanks all for your replies. I only send cards to less than 5 close friends or if I was invited to someone’s party. I don’t expect cards but if a close friend can’t be bothered to send a text then best to just focus on those who do.

Mines Boxing Day - I expect nothing from anyone 😂

Tbh I’m out with different friends on 20th and 27th so that’s good enough for me
