Human Sized Emotional Support Teddy Bears - would you get one?

There seem to be a lot of people struggling to get their emotional needs met both in and out of relationships

I've been thinking for a while about how a human substitute would be soothing at times.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/lifestyle/article-11445465/Will-Loving-Bear-Puffy-man-sized-teddy-boyfriend-substitute-make-single-life-bearable.html

What stops me is that there seems to be a fair amount of shame to admitting to having this kind of need. It seems ridiculous, creepy, whatever.

What are your opinions on this?

I yelled out loud when I scrolled down and saw the human hands. Emotional horror more like.

Aside from that it's just a bigger version of a soft toy, right? And while they're mostly for children's emotional support, I don't think it's odd for adults to draw comfort from them occasionally.

Holluschickie · 05/12/2025 10:00

Creepy and riduculous. But then I don't understand adults who have soft toys.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 05/12/2025 10:02

I'd rather have a jellycat.

I'd rather have a jellycat.

I'd rather have an actual cat.

Wait till they make one aimed at single men....

travailtotravel · 05/12/2025 10:05

No issue with soft toys and cuddlies for adults. None at all - but this feels creepy.

I didn't click on the link but from the post my first thought was that movie Companion 😂

SeaAndStars · 05/12/2025 10:18

Christ that bear is terrifying.

Justlostmybagel · 05/12/2025 10:19

Get yourself a pregnancy pillow.

cabjlhbojhs · 05/12/2025 10:24

But that is not a bear shape! The arms are more human...the head is too small...yikes!

Bookpage · 05/12/2025 10:34

I think a teddybear (or pillow?) can provide a lot of comfort. I don't know why you'd want that in your house!

FurryPupUnderTheBed · 05/12/2025 10:40

Agree it looks a bit freaky

Does anyone use a weighted blanket? Is that similar?

I use a weighted blanket. (It reminds me of pre 'continental quilt' days I'm old!) of being tucked in tight with sheets and blanket and a heavy eiderdown in a 1970s bedroom with no central heating). It's not rhe same as cuddling up to a person but nor is that freaky bear.

TrickySquirrel · 05/12/2025 11:13

I have a teddy bear who's helped me through some of the worst times. He's my buddy. He's 30cm high - size does not matter!

viques · 05/12/2025 11:14

Imagine trying to get through an airport with Puffy and your luggage, not to mention arguing the toss about Puffy being seated next to you…….

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 06/12/2025 08:46

Bloody hell!!

stayok · 06/12/2025 08:49

One of those long full body pillows would be just a comforting without the creep factor.
