Does he really want kids

how do you tell if someone’s actually serious about wanting kids, or if it’s just talk?

What’s the situation? Are you married and he’s been putting it off with ever more implausible excuses for 10 years while saying that he does want them eventually? Or are you in a newer relationship and he’s saying he wants them someday?

he’s been saying he wants a baby, but nothing’s actually happened yet. Mostly concerns about money and the size of my house.

How long have you been married or together? Do you live together? Do either of you have other children? Do you both work full time? Are both of you in good financial shape to support a child? Do you agree on parenting methods?

With the tiniest of drips you've given, it sounds like he's interested in your money and your house.
