OH MY GOD my parents did car key parties in the 70's.

I was talking to my aunt last night and she said my parents did car key parties in the 70's. Dear aunt was 100% sure. Part of me thinks this is funny but the other part of me is really grossed out. Ok so it's their sex life but yuk. Most people don't like to imagine their parents shagging each other but here I am also being faced with the fact they shagged all sorts of other people.

My mum seems so sweet and innocent (although my dad is a bit leery and so I'm not totally surprised).

It bothers me as I'm wondering if mum was kind of persuaded into it by my dad but I really can't ask her as I think she'd be so embarrassed now.

Apparently my dad also once tried it on with my (then single) aunt when he was married to mum and we were kids. What a horrid thing to do.

Not sure what I'm expecting anyone to say really but wanted to chat about it.

Are you sure your aunt's not just trying to stir?

Sparkletastic · 04/06/2008 12:46

Blimey! Why did your aunt tell you this? Were you having an idle chat about wife-swapping?!

Twinkie1 · 04/06/2008 12:47

Ooooohhhhh do you live in my village - if you do it is probably true as is swinging capital of the country - I even know where the dogging layby is!

Really it isn;t any of your business - it's their sex life!

jumpingbeans · 04/06/2008 12:47

I would never join in these partys, i always worried i would end up with the bicycle clips

thefunkypea · 04/06/2008 12:50

Hmmmmmm would be quite worried about your aunt's motives - what's she trying to achieve?

EstherGreenwood · 04/06/2008 12:51

My cousin found out (via blood tests when PG so she tells me but think thats a bit suspect and she had her doubts already) she wasn't my Uncles daughter (neither was the younger sister either)

Aunt confessed to swinging parties (can't have swung that much as both sisters have the same father.)

I was gobsmacked(Aunt is the home baking motherly type)

My father who lived in the same village said they were "all at it" but refused to confirm his involvement.

LynetteScavo · 04/06/2008 12:54

OP - your Aunt should have kept quiet - no one really want to know about thier parents sex lives - poor you!

EstherGreenwood · 04/06/2008 12:55

But as to why you're Aunt feels the need to tell you this ?

Its ancient history

(My family being somewhat (ahem) bohemian the paternity issue is viewed with mild amusement)

Yorkshire - knowing my dad if he can still be swinging when he is in his 70's he will have a good try.

Ok why did my aunt tell me....well there are some questions about my paternity, we were discussing related matters. She is the only person in my immediate family who doesn't brush everything under the carpet so I was asking her about my paternity. She then discussed stuff to do with how my parents were in the 70s and that my 'dad' had tried it on and it came out as part of that conversation. I trust her and she is not the stirring type. In the context of the conversation it was ok (well ok ish as I am quite horrified!)

Twinkie - it's none of my business in many ways but how would you feel if it were your parents - you wouldn't be grossed out??

This sort of thing was pretty common in the 70's - where I live now apparently everyone did the car key thing at our sports club.
One thing I don't get is why it was so common whereas now I imagine swinging is much more of a minority thing.

nowadays it's ipod parties.

Molesworth · 04/06/2008 13:21

I know someone who still swings in his 70s. Can't see why that should be any worse than someone in their 30s or 40s doing it?

why on earth did your aunt tell you this??

Molesworth · 04/06/2008 13:29

(FIO!!!)

WilyWombat · 04/06/2008 13:34

Hmm well it was quite fashionable in the 70s (pre aids generation) wasnt it?

Cant say I really care if anyone does/has done it as long as both parties are consenting but ive always been hideously fussy about even kissing strangers so certainly wouldnt shag them

Wouldnt be surprised if my folks did it in the 70s but SOOOOOOOOO dont want to know about it, same as my kids are grossed out if their Dad & I kiss

gooseberryfoolmoonfiend · 04/06/2008 13:37

whats an ipod party [innocent}

stirlingmum · 04/06/2008 13:57

Well tv was shite in the 70's so I suppose they had to find something exciting to do

I dont understand why people have trouble with the fact that their parents had/have a sex life. Good on them!!

jesuswhatnext · 04/06/2008 14:00

my friends dh suggested this as he fancied swapping his mondeo for an MG - he wasnt interested in the wife swapping bit though, he reckoned he had got enough trouble with his own mrs, why the buggery would he want someone elses wife aswell!

hatwoman · 04/06/2008 14:06

also people got married and had to be "grown-up" younger. I'm sure today's generation do a stack load more shagging of random people.

MNersanonymous · 04/06/2008 14:10

Lol re shite tv.

Yes that probably is a good explanation - they got married younger but then society became much more permissive so it was their way of catching up, instead of just seeing (not literally but who knows!) all the young single folk shagging galore!

MNersanonymous - I'm with you on this one.Forget all the pople saying "yes, but it's their sex life - good for them" That's crap. You are right to feel completely grossed out!
