Can’t get my head around my Dad’s health choices

I have recently found out that my 70 year old diabetic Dad is taking black market weight loss injections. He hasn’t told me this, I think because he knows I’d worry, I found out from my younger sibling. My step-brother is into bodybuilding and is supplying it. He’s now been taking it for a few weeks and by all accounts is doing well on it. I haven’t brought it up with anyone because I am so upset and worried and I don’t want to fall out with the family. Is it really my business? I’m trying to tell myself not to worry as he’s been on it for a couple of weeks now. I can’t get my head around injecting an unlicensed drug bought from someone with no medical knowledge. My Dad has always been anti any type of recreational drug, he barely drinks. He probably would qualify for Mounjaro or Wegovy through the NHS but he’ll probably not have even heard of it or thought to go to the GP. He trusts my step-brother 100%. I don’t know what to do I’m just sounding off here

Lots of diabetics don’t qualify for mounjaro, it’s based on clinical need and not just prescribed for weight loss as there needs to be iirc also 4 out of 5 comorbidities that patients also have, to have it for weight loss. If it’s a sugar control issue he may get it, but presumably there isn’t if he isn’t already prescribed it.

What on Earth is he injecting? You need to find out. At best it will be a placebo, at worst it could make him seriously ill. Some can cause pancreas or liver issues, he really needs to speak to the diabetic nurse to check he’s not causing any issues, especially if it’s not even being prescribed through a pharmacy.

I can’t get my head around it, as you say @OhTheProblemIsDefinitelyMe it could be anything.

There’s a lot of black market retatrutide at the moment apparently, but reports are fairly good, no more side effects than wegovy or mounjaro, not that that makes it any better! It’s set to be licensed next year.

It’s a worry, but at the end of the day your dad is presumably an adult with sound mind and it’s up to him.

This is it @DoYaThinkImLexi he is an adult and can make his own decisions. I can’t bring myself to talk to him about it because I know I will get upset. Thank you for sharing what it is (or could be) and that reports are good. I need to hang onto that thought.
