When did you/your DP say ‘I love you?’

Long time lurker here :)

I’m in a newish relationship - we’ve known each other for 6 months but have been together for 2 months.

I think I’m in love, but for various reasons don’t want to be the one to say it first (although I will eventually if he doesn’t 😂)

When did you/your DP first say ‘I love you’? Is 2 months too early?

We said it after 3/4 months and had known each other for a few months before that. We were kids though (18/19)…still going strong 36 years later mind you!

I’ve no idea whether 2 months is too early - what’s the rest of the relationship like? I’ve known people who claim to know they’ve met ‘the one’ and are in love after date two and others who have taken much longer. Saying it is one thing but it’s how you behave that really matters.

A year for me. 18 months for dh. Still together twenty years later! :)

Was only a few weeks. We fell in love with each other before we even met in person but kept that to ourselves.

I said it first after about a month. My boyfriend took a little longer as he wanted to be sure he meant it before saying it (not helped that he was badly hurt in his previous relationship) but I was good with that as I only wanted him to say it back if he meant it

8 years after our first DC was born 😅but I know that’s unusual.

Very early on, second week I think, after meeting in person but we’d been chatting for a while before that. I said it by accident because I have a habit of saying “love you bye” to friends and family, and it slipped out. He said “yeah, I love you too”. But I knew from the moment we met that he was the one.

I’d always been coolly cynical until I met dh.

This is a similar scenario, so something tells me he won’t be the one to say it first :(

I’m torn between telling him how I feel to reassure him and not coming on too strong and frightening him off.

About 8 weeks, but to be fair we were engaged in five months and have now been married 24 years

ColdTofuSandwich · 15/08/2025 23:58
