Left ex partner and home

As the title says, I've left my hometown in the NE. I've left my controlling partner and my former home. Im in Liverpool. Been here a few days. I'm anxious as I'm still waiting to hear from my housing officer and won't be able to get hold of/hear anything over the weekend (I'm in temp accommodation, hotel which the council have kindly booked me into). Im in touch with a local DV service and have an appointment with a support worker on Monday. I'm happy to be here, very happy, its a lovely city and so "me", but....

....Don't know what I'm asking for really, I just feel very lonely (despite the friendliness of strangers here) and hope I've done the right thing. I know it may take time to settle. Thanks in advance for any replies or advice x

I’m miles away but wanted to say bloody well done, you!!

Well done, that sort of thing takes up a lot of mental energy.

What are you going to do this weekend? Have a look at the city centre? Do they have any all day bus tickets so you can explore? The docks? Library?

LadyHexham · 01/08/2025 15:59

If you don't know the city very well, go to the tourist office and see if they have any leaflets for walking trails round the city centre.
There's loads of history so plenty to see.

The maritime museum is worth a visit.
The museum of slavery is awful, what people did to other people, so maybe save that for another time.

Enjoy your peaceful weekend.

Of course you've done the right thing.

You've escaped. Take the weekend to familiarise yourself with the immediate area. Little treats. Lots of sleep and relaxing.

See what Monday brings. Good luck.

Welcome to Liverpool! You've done a very brave thing and you will be able to build an amazing new life. Take a little walk round as others have suggested, depending on where you are, catch the train to southport if you fancy a walk near the beach. You are free.
