Hi everyone,
Please tell me if I am being horrible. My partner ever since I have met him has clearly got IBS he says he has had it for years. He must go to toilet 10 times if not more a day. I sometimes hear this. I keep asking him to go to the doctors and he won't and I am really struggling to find him attractive. On top of that he burps loudly doesn't cover his mouth and farts a lot (I am always telling him). He travels abroad for work when he comes home I expect him to shower after being on a plane before he gets into bed (that always causes a problem) He is a very lovely person extremely successful but if I am honest I have got the ick and I just don't know what to do. Am I being unreasonable?

Are you happy, OP?

Life's too short not to be happy.

Compatibility is hugely important. And if you aren’t compatible in the most basic of things like personal hygiene, you would be dooming yourself to always being unhappy.

He won’t be unhappy. If he doesn’t want to change, he won’t. And he doesn’t want to change so won’t. But you will always be unhappy.

Once you've got the ick, I'm not sure you can go back. You need to have a think about your future. If he doesn't care about you enough to want to address these issues knowing they make you unhappy, you already have the answer though.

I don't think you can undo ick I am afraid and to be honest the only chance you would have of getting over it sounds like he would have to change a lot of his behaviour, which it doesn't sound like he will do. As a previous OP said, it's a basic compatibility issue and for me the hygiene issue would be a dealbreaker.
