How long after birth did you wait before having sex?

It's been 23 days and i'm really horny but also really scared it might hurt - had an episiotomy and stitches. How long did other people wait.

If you're feeling horny it's probably fine to go for it, is what my midwife told me.

Use contraception!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 24/05/2008 23:14

about six months! took that long for any hint of my libido to come creeping back. No physical problems from the birth itself, just felt like sh*t for ages!

padboz · 24/05/2008 23:15

about ten days both times

pooka · 24/05/2008 23:28

With dd - about 8 weeks. After dr recommended I gave it a whirl because she was concerned that repair was too tight. She was right! So not again until after restitch at about 8 months.
With ds, wanted to quickly, but didn't because heavy lochia for ages. And then by the time that had eased, didn't fancy it any more really.

DevilwearsPrada · 24/05/2008 23:42

1st was 4 weeks, 2nd was 8 days.

caykon · 24/05/2008 23:43

around 10 weeks, nine months later i was holding my ds in my arms

naturalblonde · 24/05/2008 23:47

2 months. and it hurt, think cheese grater.

SmugColditz · 24/05/2008 23:59

Didn't hurt me after 3 weeks, and ds1 was a natural 8lb7 delivery.

Mind, it was rather like throwing sausages up the channel tunnel.

ChukkyPig · 25/05/2008 00:02

Why not give it a try and see? I'm sure if it hurts you can call a halt to proceedings and do something else instead...

Good luck!

ChukkyPig · 25/05/2008 00:04

Oh and it was only a couple of weeks but I had CS so not the same as vaginal delivery. It was still very sore up inside mind...

Still saying good luck!

littlewoman · 25/05/2008 21:37

Does anyone remember that case of a lady dying after she had sex 10 days or so after giving birth? Apparently it had something to do with air getting trapped somewhere?

There really is a medical reason for not doing it until 6 weeks after, so I'd look into it first. Sorry, don't mean to scare the heck heckity out of you.

littlewoman · 25/05/2008 21:44

here's a link about it

littlewoman · 25/05/2008 21:46

Says it's rare, but I have a severe case of "it would be just my luck"

technics · 25/05/2008 22:21

four weeks

cluelessnchaos · 25/05/2008 22:22

5 days each time, couldnt help myself

ChukkyPig · 25/05/2008 22:23

Blimey littlewoman not heard that one! Mind you:

"The researchers said it was more common for women to have air embolisms if they had deep penetrative sex with their knees against their chest"

So suggest the OP doesn't get too bendily overexcited! And as the article says, is super-rare!

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2008 22:26

OMG this thread has amazed me. Both times I gave birth I felt like my world had been turned completely upside down and I was walking around like a zombie for many months. Sex just did not even get on the radar...

All i wanted to do was sleeeeeeeeeep.

Still do, really. And it's been over a year since DD2.

But I do it a bit more now

littlewoman · 25/05/2008 22:29

Oh, did it? I didn't read the bit about the position they were in. I just took it as an excuse to keep the old man at bay

Crafty. Always pays to check the detail and then ignore it if necessary!

Loving "keep the old man at bay"!

moaningminnie2020 · 26/05/2008 21:39

Erm, 15 days Was CS though, still felt v wierd even though the baby hadn't travelled through...

Thomcat · 26/05/2008 21:42

DD1 - about a week
DD2 - less than a week
DD3 - a few days

Felt so close to DP having just had our babies that sex was wonderful, intense, magical and just so right.

However I didn't tear or anything and had relaxed natural home births.

francagoestohollywood · 26/05/2008 21:46

respect tc!!!!

Around 2 months with both of them.

bluewolf · 26/05/2008 21:47

1 or 2 weeks sices dd but (and I know this is probably the start of another thread) since then (8 months ago)I haven't been up for much. Could blame breasfeeding but with ds (6 years ago) this wasn't a problem.
Actually freaking me out a bit as no sex means I go a bit mad...
