Is it possible that if a guy is genuinely interested in someone but misinterpreted a text message thinking he was being rejected and step back? Or would he try to get clarification?

Gymbunny2025 · 14/06/2025 06:45

Depends what the text message said!

Bittenonce · 14/06/2025 06:54

He’d probably feel embarrassed about getting clarification. Correct it now!

Clarabella77 · 14/06/2025 06:59

What's really going on here? Is someone not replying and you're worried that the reason could be that your text has been misinterpreted?

Honestly, I think if someone goes quiet they are likely not interested. But if it's niggling you, then clarify your own text to put your own mind at rest. But be prepared to let the connection go.

Calliecarpa · 14/06/2025 07:29

Aren't you the MNer who's made at least two threads about this situation already? If I'm right, you were upset that the bloke you were seeing for 4 months didn't seem to be as interested or invested in you as you were in him, so you finished with him via text hoping that it would shock him into declaring that he wants more, but he took you at your word and hasn't contacted you again?

Red567 · 14/06/2025 07:30

He mentioned his ex to me and I may have taken it the wrong way but it seemed like there was possible feelings for her bc he said he broke it off bc he couldn't do it wifh her having 5 kids, it got overwhelming but he did love/care for her but felt like she wasnt his person and there is someone better for him and prefers someone without kids so whenever they can experience it for the first time together. So after we hung up the phone, he called me later that evening again, I couldn't answer the phone but I ended up sending bim a text saying it seemed like there might still be unresolved feelings and if so I didnt wanna get caught in between and told him he is a great guy and just want someone who is present and ready. So idk if he took that as rejection but I wanted clarity, wasnt trying to push him away.

OP posts:
Red567 · 14/06/2025 07:31

No that wasnt me. I haven't been seeing this guy fkr 4 months

OP posts:
Calliecarpa · 14/06/2025 07:33

Ah, just seen your update! I seem to recall that the other MNer I was on about had a similar username to you, but yes, your situation is different. Seems like the only way you're going to get clarification is to talk to him.

Red567 · 14/06/2025 07:34

So you tbink i should be the one to reach out again to clarify what I meant? Im just assuming that's why he hasnt replied bc he took it as rejection

OP posts:
Red567 · 14/06/2025 07:36

But he definitely showed interest in me. Did everything a guy would do when interested in someone up until when I sent that text about his ex is when I haven't heard back

OP posts:
WelshMoth · 14/06/2025 07:39

The written word doesn’t always convey the sentiment behind them OP.

Maybe call him to chat?

Red567 · 14/06/2025 07:41

Well i wish he would have asked for clarification if he was confused by my message

OP posts:
andfinallyhereweare · 14/06/2025 07:45

Yeah I would take that as rejection, if you’re bothered give him a call/text and clarify. Your writing style is generally quite confusing ask chat gpt for help with a clear message

Red567 · 14/06/2025 07:52

I did and that's what chatgpt told me to say bc i was concerned about the wording too on what to send him without coming off as rejecting him🤦‍♀️ according to chatgpt, it came off as wanting clarity not rejection so idk

OP posts:
Gonk123 · 14/06/2025 08:00

ChatGPT is not human. Right?
why didn’t you ring him back after he had rung you? How do you know he needed clarity. Maybe to him it sounded like you were ending it. I feel like that’s what you were doing. Or at least could be interpreted as that. If you like him ring him. It’s that simple.

Red567 · 14/06/2025 08:03

No chatgpt isn't human but we like to use it to help wifh wording things. I wasnt able to answer the phone and I did let him know that so that's when I texted him. Well that wasnt my intention.

OP posts:
ChristmasFluff · 14/06/2025 08:06

OP, you know how when you really like someone, you spin everything they do to give you some hope they feel the same? A bit like you are doing here?

Men do that too. If he was interested and there was any room for doubt, an interested person would clarify. I think your instincts were correct and he is still hankering after what his heart wanted with the other woman, despite him following his head because rationally it wouldn't work for him.

Red567 · 14/06/2025 08:11

Hm, then maybe it is for the best to not reach out and let him be. That could possibly be why I didnt get a response because maybe i was right in assuming that

OP posts:
Gonk123 · 14/06/2025 08:54

A lot of assumptions here!
