Reflecting back on my marriage and we wasn't planning on having a big party back here in the UK, as we were getting married abroad and the cost of that had already blown our budget.

Anyway, the mother-in-law insisted we must have a party here as well. She was quite irate about it, although we repeatedly said we had no money for a party here as well. She then said that she would help with the cost and buy the deserts for the guests.

They were inviting their friends, people we didn't even know despite us saying there's no money so numbers would have to be kept to close family only. Once we had details of all they had invited, we were expecting 150 people.

Anyway, came the night of the party and there had been no support from the in-laws at all, and as far as deserts they bought just 3 of the small cheesecakes from Iceland to feed 150 people!. Just embarrassing to say the least. Where was the help she had mentioned, how on earth was she expecting 3 small cheesecakes to be enough.

O presume this is your exMIL?

Did you provide the rest of the food and drink ?

Your MIL sounds very manipulative and made cheap, boring food choices.

Yes we had to pay for the rest of the food provided ourself as well, because the support she'd mentioned towards the cost never materialised.
