NZ lady seeking divorce advice

Hey,

I'm in a bit of a overshare here .

I came to England to travel with some friends a few years ago and met an English guy who I ended up marrying

We have a young child and he's got a child from a previous relationship

He decided to end our marriage about 10 months ago and now I'm stuck.

I don't have any family in the UK and I don't really know many people outside of his family except a few friends from work and the like

I don't know what to do,, I married after a few months of dating and left all the big expenses to him as he earns more than me
I can't really afford a place by myself in the area

As a last resort I thought about going back to New Zealand and just leaving everything behind

Help

You need proper legal advice
As you are married you probably have rights to any assets even if they are just in his name
As you have a joint child I don't think you can just take them and leave The UK

What would he think about you moving back?

When you say leaving everything behind, I assume you would take your child to NZ with you?

Have you started divorce proceedings yet? Finances will be done alongside so you will know what the financial settlement will be although you have not had a long marriage.

We have a house in both our names but even if we sell or buy eachother out I don't think I'll have enough for my own place after paying the mortgage and solicitors, maybe £20k deposit if I'm lucky
We live near London and prices for a apartment are £200k for something decent
I only work part time

I just am struggling to get out of this situation
