Hi, advice please,
my daughters relationship has broken down at uni she has been staying a lot at her boyfriends house, her girl friends also share that house with him. Now he’s ended the relationship she’s back in her house and lonely and upset she hardly knows her house mates and her friends don't seem to be rallying around much. My advice has been to get to know her housemates more. Now one of her friends have told her that they are going to the uni pub her ex will be there I don’t know if she should go and meet get it out the way, why should she be cut out, she thinks they only asked her out of pity assuming she won’t turn up! I’m not sure what she should do, she’s so lonely. Any advice please. I feel like she needs to make new friends.

Well It might be hard if she never bothered with them before.

Sounds like she needs to focus on herself, uni and working - and not a man.

Advice would be to start trying to find a new social circle, see what clubs she could join, get to know others on her course/house mates. Don't look at it as pity if they invite her, they may be trying to help as young people do. Same thing happened to my ds, these relationships can feel very intense. No reason she shouldn't go to the same places he socialises in .

She needs to meet her friends. She doesn't have to do more than acknowledge him. Or arrange to see her friends separately while getting to know her flatmates. Is she a first year?

Of course she should go! Tell her to hold her head high and appear confident even if she doesn't feel it! Definitely encourage her get to know her housemates more, she could do with their support right now.

Thank you. Yes I think you’re right. I’m trying to convince her to join a club and not just limit herself to the girls that live with her ex.
