WhatsApp help !

I’ve been with my partner for 9 months and we always chat on WhatsApp however yesterday during our chat there was a notification that he’d activated the option disappearing messages. I really don’t understand why and for some reason going it hurtful.
what’s the reason for choosing this option ? It seems odd to me

He’s hiding you , for some reason?

The disappearing option I presume is all messages are deleted after a certain amount of time

People are always turning disappearing messages on by accident in group chats that I'm on. It's easily done. I bet it was a mistake. Just turn it off again.

Your conversation. You have to turn them on in each individual chat

so why would he do that ?

My friend has this, purely for storage on her phone and so that she doesn't have to go through manually deleting everything to make space

This is a perfectly normal thing to do, particularly when you have a large number of messages back and forth.

You can choose to keep the ones you want. It makes it easier to find any info you wanted to keep.

Just say done thing like "I noticed you'd turned disappearing messages on - was there a reason for that or was it an accident?"

I turned mine on by accident recently. Also when I reinstalled WhatsApp on my new iPhone recently it was automatically turned on!

Also WhatsApp chats take up quite a lot of space! Don’t worry Op. just ask him
