Date apps

I recall reading somewhere that there is a dating app that you can keep your pictures private until you decide to contact someone.
For many reasons I don't wish my photo to be on an accessible app for anyone to see.
I looked at Bumble but apparently they've changed their set up and your photo is public.

i Think i recall one, maybe called Anonymous?

Doubt it will have legs though, Can't imagine people will be happy/feel safe not knowing who they are chatting to.

I suppose you are right, smithey85. I'm quite stuck as to how to get started - please see my thread Dating After 50. I don't feel old!

Sorry, I think I replied to Smithey. Probably doesn't matter much though, from what I see we have to publish our photos and I worry about my ex seeing my profile, so...

Bodybutterblusher · 20/01/2025 18:42

Bumble has an incognito mode but you have to pay extra.

I know tinder has an option whereby contacts on your phone can be ‘blocked’ from seeing your profile, pretty sure others will have similar.

Gr8white · 20/01/2025 19:01

Hi Smithey. I'm not great with tech, dont know much about dating (hence my post here), but I always thought Tinder was for younger people and perhaps a 'no strings' sort of place. Am I wrong?

smithey85 · 20/01/2025 19:20

Well I’m 40, and there are plenty at or slightly above my age range. My mum is also on it haha and she’s 66 so I’d say it covers most age ranges.

I've met my last two GF on tinder and with the advent of ‘proper hook up apps’ like WAX and Feeld etc, I don’t think it’s perceived as a hook up app any more.

if you want to be more anonymous I’d suggest Facebook dating. Anyone your fitness with won’t show up, it’s completely free and you can see who’s liked you. It’s only on mobile and not desktop

Gr8white · 20/01/2025 19:27

Hmm. That's in interesting thought, but I think my FB is too obvious for all to see. Thanks so much for posting

But doesn't Facebook dating show up on your page ?

Bumble used to have this, not sure if it still does. It was called "incognito mode"

Gr8white · 20/01/2025 19:48

I think the FB thing might mean potential dates see my page, which I would hate as it's mainly pics of me being boring with my kids

Last thing I need , I believe I've talked myself out of dating lol

You can browse incognito on Tinder if you pay for it. Might be worth having a go for a week?
