Want a secret wedding

Me and my partner have been together 20 years and we want to get married secretly at a registry office - the issue is we need witnesses but dont want to ask anyone we know as we just want to keep it amongst ourselves. I know you can go out and find people on the street but this gives me anxiety - has anyone ever done this or have any advice?

If you kind of hint at where you live some lovely MN people will be only too happy to help. It's been done before on here.

Ask on here! There’s usually someone who lives near enough to pop down for half an hour.

As someone whose marriage (to a man) was done with 2 witnesses only and whose civil partnership (to a Woman) was done with 2 witnesses plus another friend, I'd help out if you lived nearish to me!

Id happily be a witness if you were up my way!

We asked a random old work colleague of DP's who doesn't know any of our other friends and family. He and his girlfriend just turned up, came for a drink after and we haven't seen them since (22 years ago!)

I believe yours would be the 3rd wedding that has been witnessed by a MN'er as there was a similar request in the last 12 months, and several posters then said it had happened before.

My grandparents asked 2 people on the street before their wedding and they were married almost 60 years until my grandmother passed. If that’s what you want, do it. It’s all about your marriage not about the big to do. Congratulations and all the best wishes for a long and happy marriage 🥂

You can ask office staff to witness for you. I’ve done it a couple of times and it’s really special. It you let the registry office people know, they should help.
