Changing name

Hi all I got married a little while ago but haven't changed my name on my driving license or passport
Can you get into trouble for this?

I did change my name upon marriage so my marriage certificate has my new name on it.

I haven't been in a hurry to change my passport as it runs out soon just want to make sure there isn't some kind of law to say I need to change it

I'm also reluctant to send my marriage certificate as we got married abroad and only got one copy and says on dvla website it has to be the original

You are allowed to use more than kind name as long as it is not for fraudulent purposes.

And it’s the name in your birth certificate.

Just make sure you book any flight tickets in the name that exactly matches your passport.

My friend has been divorced nearly 20 years and still has her married name on her DL and her own name on her passport so she has ID in each name.

She’s not been lead away in handcuffs as yet - well not for that reason anyway

Exactly this. As long as you're not committing any fraud or deception, it's fine.

You do need to ensure, as the pp I've quoted says, that you are consistent, however - I was once stuck behind a young couple at airport check-in who had found to their horror that her passport did not match the name her ticket was booked in.
