He said he’s going to be busy for next few weeks

Been on a few dates with a guy. We are the same age, our kids are similar ages and we both work full time. We live 5 mins apart. He has his kids 50/50. He’s been out of the family home for a year and in a week he moves into a new flat. He’s usually really good fun but tonight he seemed distracted. We kissed etc in his car on the way home and then he got odd again. He then out of the blue said he’s got a busy couple of weeks coming up after he asked me what my plans are next weekend. I feel this maybe is a bit of a brush off? Or am I being over sensitive?

He's moving, so he IS going to have a couple of very busy weeks, though.

Ted27 · 10/01/2025 00:38

Isn't moving into a new permanent home busy enough?
Lots organising, packing and unpacking, with kids in tow.
Last time I moved house it was so stressful I swore I'd never do it again - still here 30 years later

Pinkissmart · 10/01/2025 00:39

I think it’s reasonable to assume he’ll be settling in and getting his kids sorted so may not have time for lengthy activities . Different story if he doesn’t make time for phone calls or a quick coffee.

OhBling · 10/01/2025 11:14

what were your plans for next weekened and did you expect him to join you?

Because if he's moving house and managing DC at the same time, yes, I imagine tha twill be a pretty tricky time. And you have't been dating long enough that you'd pop round with pizza to help unpack or to hang out, but he's going to need to sort stuff.

TriangleLight · 10/01/2025 11:22

I do think it is a brush off. I’d leave it up to him to contact you now.

MyDeepZebra · 10/01/2025 11:26

While it's true that he will be busy, I also see this as a brush off.

Be careful, don't get too emotionally invested
if it's a committed relationship you're looking for.

TwistedWonder · 10/01/2025 11:32

He will be busy if he’s moving but it does seem like a brush off.

If he really wanted to see you, he’d maybe ask you to drop into his new place to have a look/ get a takeaway or something.

Chuchoter · 10/01/2025 11:33

It might be a brush off but the man has a lot in his plate with the house move!

FloralCrown · 10/01/2025 11:37

The move will be busy, but it literally takes a minute to send a text, so if he's thinking of you and wants to maintain contact, he'll be in touch. If he's not he won't.

PiggyPigalle · 10/01/2025 12:18

It's not the "I've got a couple of busy weeks coming up", that's a fact. What came after both from him and you is what counts.

ChristmasFluff · 10/01/2025 12:34

Action speak louder than words. I remember moving flats and getting my new bloke over to have a look and a glass of champagne the day I moved in. It may take longer as he has kids, but if he's acting off and then you don't see or hear much from him, he's doing a slow fade.

Or he's taking a couple of weeks to get to know someone he likes the look of, but is keeping you on the back-burner in case it doesn't work out.

When a man really likes you, he finds time for you, no matter how busy he is. We all prioritise what matters to us.

OurDreamLife · 10/01/2025 12:35

There’s no point in continuing if he’s being distant but moving is a good reason.

3sausagedogs · 10/01/2025 15:16

I get he’s moving and he’s got a lot on his plate…. I’m plenty chilled about seeing each other once a week etc But the phase ‘I’ve got a busy couple of weeks coming up’ is a brush off phase in my opinion. He asked what I was up to next week and tbf I said I hadn’t thought that far ahead, we both have our kid weekends this weekend. So it was an odd thing to just say after that

You'll know if he wants to see you if he arranges something. I wouldn't be chasing him down. Switch OFF your feelings.
