Is a guy’s zodiac sign important to you?

Hey ! I don't really believe in compatibility or astrology in general and never ask guys about their zodiac signs, but I'm starting to notice that something matches the description of the signs. What about you? Is it important to you?

Do you say the same about people who believe in God? I don't believe people who say 'Oh I've had a shit day today because Mercury is in retrograde' or whatever, but I don't see the harm in the OP.

I definitely judge people who behave a certain way just because a religion tells them to, even if it doesn’t make logical sense. Like someone wanting to prevent an abortion that could save a woman’s life because it’s against “God”.

For me, it’s that fact that they are easily manipulated into believing something that isn’t true and then possibly acting on that untruth. It’s meaningless drivel, often peddled to make a profit for liars taking advantage of these “believers”. It’s just so completely ridiculous.

For anyone to be influenced into dating or not dating someone based on the month they were born is messed up. People should base it on how well the person treats them, how well they get on together, etc.

It all BS.
My ex was a cancer, he was a selfish, narcisist, probable sociopath and incredibly emotionally, verbally, financially and sexually abusive. He had this ego that everyone else existed to serve him, that he had to ultimate right to take whatever he wanted, without consent, his only care was his own wants.

My fiance is also a cancer, and hes kind, gentle, loving, respectful and treats me like a queen, they absolutely could not be more different. He always puts me first and values my feelings and wellbeing above any want he has.

My friend, she is an astrologer and says that there are 12 planets such as Moon, Venus, Mars that affect us, not only the sun sign matters.

Let's not move on to the topic of faith, please. Faith in God helps many people, especially in these difficult times. Its everyone's choice to believe or not. Everyone comes to faith in their own way, at different times, but there are very few dying atheists...

Been married over 20!years. Don't know what sign my husband is. That is how much it doesn't matter to me.

Same. Genuinely no clue. Or for my kids. Anytime I ever read anything about my own star sign it's completely wrong!

BobbyBiscuits · 08/01/2025 14:01

No. There are more than twelve types of people in this world.
Have you ever met someone with the same birthday as you? Yep. They didn't seem like your lost twin, or being very similar to you in personality or outlook? No. They didn't.

Well, that shows how significant astrology is.

There are seven planets in our solar system besides Earth (the Moon is not a planet). What are the other five planets that affect our characters and our lives here on Earth? Some of the nine dwarf planets?

(The nearest known exoplanet to our solar system is Proxima Centauri b, which orbits the red dwarf star Proxima Centauri, our nearest star after the Sun. Proxima Centauri is not visible to us without a decent telescope, and also you need to be in or nearly in the southern hemisphere.)

MemorableTrenchcoat · 08/01/2025 14:03

Is the date that someone was born important to me? No. Do I think the personality traits of organisms on this planet are influenced by things trillions of miles away? Also no.

I've realized that I've been liking and attracting certain signs my whole life, so I'm starting to think that maybe it's not such a bs :)

It is bullshit.

You beat me to it, that's pretty much exactly what I was going to say!

Tortielady · 08/01/2025 14:05

Not at all. I like the fact that our birthdays are at different times in the year; it helps with spreading the cost and gives us two separate outings/meals out etc to look forward to. But I'm not at all interested in DH's actual star-sign.

struggling24 · 08/01/2025 14:06

Wow - people are really opposed to star signs on Mumsnet!

But you've got to think they put it on dating apps for a reason!

I'm massively into it. It would certainly put me off if a date was into it though- but for me it's really interesting.

And yes I did bear it in mind when I was online dating.

ErickBroch · 08/01/2025 14:07

'very few dying atheists'??? Grin oh dear

IfUCantDance · 08/01/2025 14:08

@Mili4 I didn’t bring up the topic of faith, I was answering a question someone else asked me.

Regardless, horoscopes are nonsense.

It's nonsense but I do enjoy reading them. My ex was an Aries, you couldn't find a more cowardly people pleaser- not typical at all.

ViciousCurrentBun · 08/01/2025 14:10

My MIL is in to astrology, there is a lot of eye rolling between DH and I when she spouts it out to explain stuff.

I’m glad there’s a lot of mature ladies. Even grown men seriously believe in astrology 🥲

I can assure you it is. DH used to write them for the local paper when we were students, and would insert in-jokes for friends with birthdays coming up.

I love a bit of astrology and even studied it quite seriously at one point and can do natal charts and synastry readings. However I wouldn't pay too much attention to star signs in terms of dating. The truth is the sun sign is just a small part of a persons chart and there is so many other things to look at and consider, the sun sign basically won't tell you anything important so please just don't worry about it. Also remember that while astrology like all forms of divination can be brilliant fun and at times a useful way of looking at things it really shouldn't have a major influence on what you do in life. Consider it entertainment more than serious advice and never spend a lot of money on it!

struggling24 · 08/01/2025 14:20

Yes @Mili4 I don't think you'd ever work out the 12 planet signs of a date- as I don't even know my own, and I've been into star signs for 20 years.

It's amazing the similarities you can see across different people once you get into it (not that I'm necessarily recommending that you do)

For me the weird thing is that air signs men and me have literally nothing in common- we never fancy each other or click, to the point that I didn't bother connecting with them on online dating even if they were good looking- as I could just tell there'd be nothing between us.

I guess people would say don't rule anything out with online dating- but it could be interesting to bear in mind what star sign they are.

Pepla · 08/01/2025 14:21

Mili4 · 08/01/2025 14:14

Really? But it’s not only about sun sign, there are 12 planets that affect us

The only way the planets’ positions at our birth ‘affect us’ is that it’s pretty clear that someone who believes this stuff gets a C- in critical thinking.

Oreyt · 08/01/2025 14:21

My brother has had 2 wives. Both with the same star sign. Both psychos. Before people say it's my brother. I was friends with one before they even met. Definitely their personalities.
