Completely new personality

I'm currently going through a split with my DH after I caught him cheating. We have been together for 26 years but over the last few weeks he is like a completely different person. It's making me feel like I don't know him at all.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Is he now showing his true personality?
I just can't understand it. He used to be pretty chilled but is now angry all the time and being so very selfish. They things he is saying to me are so out of character.
I feel like he's constantly trying to get me to bite, maybe he's trying to make himself feel less guilty?

Yes, that's exactly it, it's the guilt & deep down shame he feels because he cheated.
He has to be vile to you so you are vile back & he can then convince himself that he was right to wreck his marriage.
It's text book.

He will soon start telling you he never loved you, try to blame you for "making him' seek sex/love elsewhere and will probably paint himself as some kind of victim.

I am sorry you are going through this but you are the next in a long line of (mainly) women who have been through the same thing.
Be strong, get good legal advice & protect yourself and your future.
Oh and don't believe him when he tries to rewrite history - he did love you (possibly still does), what you had together was real and you didn't force him to do anything. And you aren't crazy.
