Sister blabbed that I had a tattoo

This may sound totally trivial in the grand scheme of things but at Christmas Eve dinner my sister announced to the table that I had a tattoo. My parents are very against tattoos and so I just never told them and it’s not somewhere they would see usually. Although if they did see it it wouldn’t be the end of the world as I am an adult. Had told sister, she knew parents wouldn’t approve and agreed to not say. She thought this was very funny and of course then it got a reaction from my parents and they were (unreasonably) upset. Am I right to be annoyed? We are all in our 40s so not teenagers but she knew it would rock the boat

Funny how a family Christmas turns us back into children, lol. She’s totally out of order for mentioning it, and you are totally out of order for giving a shit…

nonbinaryfinery · 29/12/2024 23:27

They're adults. You're an adult. They will just have to get over it. Your sister needs to grow up.

vodkaredbullgirl · 29/12/2024 23:28

They will get over it.

KilkennyCats · 29/12/2024 23:28

All in your 40s, you say? 😳

Moonlightstars · 29/12/2024 23:29

Gah! You sister is a twat for mentioning it. Your parents are twats for judging. You are a twat for caring about your parents small mindedness.

RosieBurdock · 29/12/2024 23:29

Have you seen the tattoo episode of Friday Night dinner? It's funny.

CrispyCrumpets · 29/12/2024 23:29

Just shrug it off, no-one else's business!

2chocolateoranges · 29/12/2024 23:30

Your sister is a twat but it’s your body , so your choice of what you do to it!

nowt to do with your parents.

Absolutely this.
Your sister really is a prize twat.

Yes 100% I was just saying that today to my husband how we all revert back to our childhood roles, myself included

I bet she has/wants one and is using you as a test case

My sister blabbed to my dad. I was pregnant I wanted to tell him myself. I was 24 living independently and working it really wasn't her place ffs

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 29/12/2024 23:33

Your sister acted like a complete dick. It’s going to come back and bite her on the arse.
Your parents need to get over it.

I don’t care too much what they think but they’re in their late 70s so it’s more of a case of what they don’t know can’t hurt them so I wouldn’t rush to tell them about my tattoo. My sister knows exactly their views and it then caused upset at the table, totally ridiculous that they would even care but she knew that would happen

Your sister is a total dope. She is one of those pathetic people who thought she was being hilarious.

pizzaHeart · 29/12/2024 23:38

It wouldn’t be about a tattoo for me. I would be very upset because not only your sister couldn’t kept your secret but she deliberately put you in a tricky position when you asked her not too.
I wouldn’t trust her in the future and tbh I would tell her that it was wrong, it was mean and she showed that she couldn’t be trusted. Try to stay calm while saying this to make it a matter of fact statement rather than an argument.
I wouldn’t go into long debate with parents. You are at age when it’s allowed and it’s your body so it’s not their business. Tell them that yes, you know they don’t like it but it’s your choice. Smile and offer a different topic.

Yes exactly. It’s not their business hence why I haven’t told them plus I know how they react about these things so the less said the better but I am annoyed at my sister and she knows exactly what she was doing

I'd be more annoyed at my parents for such an over reaction for something that is none of their business and that they have no right to have an opinion on.

Maybe your sister was intending to wind your parents up rather than get to you. I know if my parents had that type of attitude to me or my sister it would really piss us both off and I can imagine my sister (in particular) enjoying taking the mick and looking for a reaction. They're being ridiculous

Nextyearhopes · 29/12/2024 23:49

Just say yeah I do. And sister has chlamydia.

Yes, but telling is not her decision to make. If she herself had a tattoo then she could share that with them. However her sisters business was not hers to tell regardless of how annoyed she was.
