Asked if I’m a man on pof

I joined pof today, known for years that I’m a lesbian and finally took the plunge and joined. I’m selfie verified and am happy to a video call to confirm I’m a women. Women messaged, lived in my town. Talking about clothes, I asked which shops she prefers there ( trying to make conversation) next minute I got ‘are you a bloke pretending to be a women’ I’m not sure how me asking which shops she preferred made me a man? She was the one who mentioned my dress in the pic and where it was from. Is this normal??

Nobody could possibly know except her.

But sadly for masc lesbians this is yet another negative outcome of the trans movement.
Lesbians have to check they are actually talking to women and many masc lesbians are wrongly assumed to be men. A lot of my lesbian friends have talked about this.

MsMajeika · 26/12/2024 20:41

She may have thought you seemed too good to be true and was trying to find the catch!

arethereanyleftatall · 26/12/2024 20:41

It is now that anyone can decide if they want to be a man or a woman. Now every person has to put up with this farce. And, for pretty much everyone, it's deeply insulting to be asked. But, hey, as long as trans are happy, sod everyone else.

Bumbleebeee · 26/12/2024 20:42

Apologies, just read you are feminine.

Perhaps she thought you were catfishing with a fake profile.

Anotherparkingthread · 26/12/2024 20:55

There's a few options. A. They thought you were a man using somebody else's pictures to pose as a woman because the internet is full of perverts. B. They thought you looked like somebody with weak boundaries and they wanted to push you to prove it by sending pictures, audio, offering to video call, thus hurrying along the relationship (women can be dickheads too!). C. They are themselves a man pretending to be a woman, and are afraid they might accidentally beat one out while chatting to another dude, posing as a super hot lesbian.

That sounds like a decent list of reasons.

UnstableEquilibrium · 26/12/2024 21:13

Sounds like something in the way you talked about clothes made her suspect a catfishing perve: not necessarily a self-identified TW, just a bloke wanting to talk dirty to a lesbian.

Every day on MN we read posts starting with "Hallo, fellow ladies, I'm having trouble finding some good panties, can you please tell me all about your knickers?" We all need to be so alert online for people who aren't who they pretend to be that sometimes our alarms are triggered by a false positive.

HoundsOfHelfire · 26/12/2024 21:13

I immediately assume they are make checking that you’re female

AltitudeCheck · 05/01/2025 10:52

I'd assume she's encountered a man on the app before who immediately tried to steer the conversation around to wearing woman's clothes and now she is wary!

I'd laugh it off and and say '100% biological female' and ask her if she's encountered men to the app and then probably bond over being sick of men / GC!

If you're on the apps you'll likely encounter them too unfortunately. Men who think women are there to entertain, amuse or titillate them and who have no problem invading spaces not meant for them.

Shiningout · 05/01/2025 10:54

I've talked to supposedly women on apps and they've turned out to be men posing as women. It's sad but unfortunately it happens a lot, men go on to get their kicks.

user23124 · 05/01/2025 10:56

A lot of lesbians have suffered horrendous cat fishing by predatory men pretending to be lesbians - my friend had someone use photoshopped images and when she met them they were a very masculine male - she was totally intimidated and then called names when she said she was only interested in women, not trans-women.

Hope you're not in the LGBT community and a transphobe.

user23124 · 05/01/2025 12:33

@H112 it is not transphobic to be sexually attracted to only one sex. It is homophobic to think lesbians have to accept men as potential partners. You are the bigot here.

Bumbleebeee · 05/01/2025 12:58

H112 · 05/01/2025 11:53

Hope you're not in the LGBT community and a transphobe.

I'm a gay woman has many lesbian friends who all don't want to have men in our dating pools.

And I'm not in any community. I'm a same sex attracted woman, that has nothing to do with 'T'.And I don't need to fall in line with their manifesto when it directly contradicts my sexuality.

arethereanyleftatall · 05/01/2025 13:13

Oh fgs @H112 - think. Just actually think.
