Friend found boyfriend on dating app

My friend messaged this morning with screenshots showing that my boyfriend of a year was appearing on Facebook dating.
Does anyone know if someone has to be active on Facebook dating to have their profile show up for someone to match with? I'm not clear with how it works.

I do not know personally but surely in a relationship of a year he would have deleted an old account anyway?

TwistedWonder · 15/11/2024 08:37

Yes you do have to be active. You can hide or save your profile to reactivate later but it won’t show if you’re not using it.

Maybe he just didn't remove his profile but hasn't actually been going on?
Only one way to find out....ask him x

SnugCoralFinch · 15/11/2024 08:43

Yes you have to be active - inactive profiles won’t sure up for people to match with.

SnugCoralFinch · 15/11/2024 08:43

Show up not sure 🙄

Sceptical123 · 15/11/2024 08:50

Could your friend/you ‘match’ with him using a fake account and his reaction will tell you all you need to know

MyCatsAreFuckwits · 15/11/2024 08:53

Yes, you have to opt in.

You have the option of not linking to anyone on your friends list.

This will not be visible to anyone you are friends with on Facebook.

You can't forget to deactivate because regular updates appear on a separate feed to the main Facebook feed.

Edit to add: Once deactivated the profile/updates and extra Facebook link (for dating) dissappear

Thanks everyone, responses appreciated
