Disrespected

I have walked a dog through a charity for 5 and a half years for free. The dog is on loan to a woman who is supposed to be deaf but this is not the case and a charity rep said she should not have the dog. She has overfed the dog over the years which he was removed from her twice so they could get him to lose weight at the charity centre.

2 weeks ago I noticed he had red blood shot eyes with pus seeping. It looked really bad and I told the charity and the woman. The charity were subtle and came a few days later and pretended to do a routine visit. 2 days ago there was no improvement so I emailed the charity rep and then phoned a manager at the centre.

The woman who has the dog is furious and sent me a nasty message asking why did I tell the charity as they contacted her. She made up a lie saying the dog has been to the vets 5 times in 5 weeks but the charity have the vets records and said the dog has not been at all.

I was shocked I replied back saying I have walked the dog for 5 and a half years for FREE and that the charity has always said to report issues as the legally belongs to them and the are liable. She doesn’t get it, I had told her multiple times and I was concerned the dog could lose his eye sight as it is really bad.

This woman has abused the charity and does not need the dog. The woman told me a charity rep said she doesn’t need the dog. She just uses the charity to get a free dog as they pay the vet bills. Many times I have been there and she has lots of family and a grandson who could walk him and they sit in the living room eating take outs while I have walked this dog in the cold or dark.

The charity rep tried to talk me round it saying it would be sad for me to leave. I have had enough now of being used and disrespected. I love the dog so much and would miss him dearly. Someone cheating a charity out of an assistance dog and money does not sit right with me. I feel the dog needs rehoming to a decent honest family who would look after him don’t really want to see this woman ever again, she is rude and entitled.

So what are the charity doing about it?

For some reason they left him in her care instead of removing him to go back to the centre to get rid of this severe eye infection. It is clear she can’t look after the dog so why leave the dog with her.

The charity know she does not qualify for an assistance dog, and know she has neglected it's welfare. I'd take issue with the charity. They don't vet the people the dogs go to and put them at risk. It's the 'charity' that needs reporting. It would make me question if they are really a bona fide charity or a money scam.

So is the dog still with her and is not getting treatment for the problem with it's eye?
I don't understand why the charity aren't removing the dog. .
It must be very upsetting for you
Can you report the situation to the RSOCA because it's such a shame for the dog.

It is a registered national charity.

Report the charity for animal abuse to the charity commissioner. Write to your MP about your concerns.

basically you should just want to shame them into doing something to look after the dog.

can you offer to rehome It?

poor puppy.

You’ve already posted this before haven’t you?

Try posting in The Doghouse not Relationships?
Also, with the best will I would say the main priority is making sure the dog is okay not you feeling disrespected?
Im sure you are concerned and angry but either the Charity knows more about the situation than you do or they are not looking into it enough.
Either way perhaps you will get more knowledgeable replies from the specialist Doghouses forum.

I know. It is just I knew this woman for years and she has turned so nasty on me. I can’t understand why I did a selfless act of walking the dog for free and looking out for him means nothing to her. I know the dog is priority in all this so need to ensure he gets sorted. It seems the more you give in society it is taken advantage of and unappreciated.
