My dad's made me feel a failure

I told my dad today I wanted to buy a parrot 🦜 for me and my 2 children. I've had a male friend that I've not told my family about for 3 years but it's come to an end regardless. My dads reply was

"Find a husband you don't want a bird"

He then spoke on the phone and made a joke about needing a relationship not a pet.

I have just gone onto my Facebook. I have 280 friends. I think only 30 of them are single. I now feel like im failing at life. But no idea how I can magic a husband. I refuse to use dating apps. I cannot be bothered messaging and texting and being messed about.

Are other people single at my age?

Is it a Russian Blue?

Take this interference as a sign from the universe to do what makes you happy, not what others think you should do.

What are you going to call your parrot?

Singletonat3444 · 02/11/2024 23:15

I've not picked one yet. I was trying to chat to my dad to see if he could take us to pick one. But he's focused on joking I need a partner not a pet.

Beautiful plumage!

Get a parrot and teach it to say 'silly old man' to him.

Your dad is from another era and has the old fashioned sexist view that a woman can’t manage without a man which is bollocks

My dad often asks me if I’m dating - I just laugh and say ‘no I’m enjoying my single life too much’ and change the subject

You don't need a man/husband to make you happy but you also don't need a parrot. They require specialist care and are long lived and suffer badly from captivity stress. Choose something else.

Parrots live remarkably long lives have exacting needs and are terribly traumatised by changes to households.

Like men do.

However I have less of an issue traumatising a fellow human of either sex than I do a bird

😆

My pets bring a great deal of joy to my happy single life . Do what makes YOU happy. Sod everyone else.
