I saw on the IE forum a few days ago (please don’t judge me!) that people are actually planning on using some sort of signal to let other people know they’re basically looking to cheat in supermarkets – two bell peppers with the stalks facing downwards in a trolley or basket. In the 1970's it was bananas. If you had the hand (bunch) down in your trolley you were 'unavailable', if they were facing up then you were open to offers, as my Mum put it! Hers always faced down before anyone asks.
