Hiya , first of all any advice on this or recommendations for contraception greatly appreciated :)

So I have been seeing a man for a few months now and we have been using condoms when we have sex.
This hasnt been an issue however I do worry a bit about pregnancy as my periods are still very regular and I was always very fertile.
We both have children from previous marriages so we have both decided that we do not want any more babies.

I feel like I would like some extra contraception to be extra safe and also as our relationship progresses I may move onto sex without condoms.

Anyway the issue for me is, I have had very bad experiences in the past with the injection and coil they are a straight no way would I ever risk using either if them again

I do suffer from low mood and anxiety at times which I manage well with exercise and socialising however it gets worse around my period so I do not want a pill that will make it worse.

I have also recently started hrt for perimenopause so I dont want anything that can affect that

I just feel clueless as to what to take, the gps tend to try and push me towards a coil and I dont want one.

Theres alot of confusing advice online ,some stating 40 plus women shouldn't take the pill at all I this true ?

Any advice or recommendations please ladies

Thank you

😕😖 I'm sure if men were the ones who could get pregnant it would be alot more simple🤣

What is your BMI? I've not been allowed the pill because i'm overweight.
I have the nexplanon implant and it's brilliant.

I took the mini pill aged 42-44 and it was fine, no issues at all. I was not taking hrt though, so you might want to check whether that combination is ok.

Thanks for this. So is that the one you take every day? Did you still have periods?

I started the pill again at 43 and gp was happy to prescribe it. I don’t take hrt though so no idea if you can take both.

Yes I took it every day, no periods for me which was nice to be honest.

I take the mini pill - progesterone only - as I don’t want periods at all (lupus makes mine super heavy), been on it years and years. Recently added in HRT (oestrogel and utrogestan) - you can take it / them alongside the mini pill. I’m 44.

Tell him to have a vasectomy. Problem solved.
