Feeling bored of being single - what to do

I've been single for a long time. I have dated a few people in between but for some reason I am starting to feel more lonely now.

My dc are older and do their own thing, I feel like all I do is work and then when I have free time I'm bored as I don't want to go out for drinks all the time and I'm very tired from work being busy.

I have started looking into groups like hiking groups and also looked at dating nights and I'm trying to arrange for a friend to come with me.

Anyway I'm just feeling lonely and wondering how others made themselves feel happy when single. I usually do feel happy when I meet friends most weekends but sometimes I'm just too tired for that.

Hi,
I’m also single (49F), don’t particularly want to bother with a relationship and don’t mind being single but the downside is that you have an excess of spare time on your hands and I also feel bored quite a lot of the time, especially now as the weather is really cold, it’s a difficult quandary to be in sometimes

Dating men who can’t provide or offer anything of substance can make us feel more lonesome than we were to begin with. Fill your own cup outside of work with activities and hobbies that energise you.

I agree with your comments on dating but having a lot of spare time outside of work is the issue especially when the weather is cold
